FINALLY! Overall it seemed like there was a great mix of games tonight. Everything from the predicted score fests, to a few really tight games, including the first regular season shootout.

It was also fun, and relieving to watch my Wild beat the Flames tonight. It's going to be a fun season for hockey fans.

That Stars comeback was pretty sweet.

I was worried all the celebrating and ceremony was going to have the Lightning off their game tonight. That and the fact that their last two preseason games were so crappy. I was wrong to be worried though. They totally dominated and should have shutout the Hurricanes if not for an assist by the referee's skate and a dumb turnover that gave them a second freebie. A solid 5-2 win.

And yay for the banners finally going up!

I could not believe that shit. What a bullshit penalty. If this is what the new NHL is, I'm not going to be happy. Soccer on ice.

Thanks for the mini Stanley Cup, NHL! I wonder how many of them ended up on the ice.

I didn't see the penalty so I'm not sure, but fans have to be patient as they DO need to call a lot of stuff that was previously incorrectly seen as borderline but actually does break the rules as they are written. I'm guessing it really was BS if it caused that much outrage though. Hooking, holding, and interference should not be confused with good physical or defensive play. The Bolts/Canes game was an awesome display of speed and skill with lots of odd man rushes going both ways and lots of creative passing and puckhandling, plenty of open ice, and no talentless hacks getting by on obstruction, as well as some still bonecrushing and perfectly legal hits. Now that's hockey!

Anyway to cap off a great night, the Flames lost, the Flyers lost by giving up a ton of goals in the 3rd period, and Nikolai Khabibulin lost and gave up 5 goals on 24 shots. Vindication baby.

Oh!!! So THATS what they were tossing on the ice after the Boston game. I flipped to it on NHL Center Ice, just after it ended.

Jagr used to have the best one, then he got rid of it and lost some of his Samson-esque power..

BTW check out some of these recent scores..

Boston 7, Pittsburgh 6 OT
Ottawa 5, Buffalo 0
Montreal 5, Toronto 4
San Jose 7, St. Louis 6
Atlanta 8, Washington 1

It's like a time warp to the 80s.

Yeah it's odd. Some nights it's like a firggin shooting gallery, and the goalies look like they can't stop anything. And yet, there are games that end 2 to 1 and such. The goalies are defenitely still getting used to the smaller equipment.
