IMO seeing celebs at G-Phoria is pointless. I really couldn't give a care if some guy I saw in some movie was there, sure it's neat to know that he is a gamer but we have players for that. Don't invite B and C celebs that couldn't give a rat's ass about gaming, invite gamers.

I couldn't agree more Reffy. I have no problem with celebs who want to do it for nothing. But I'm sure they are giving those B, C celebs something. I know they were giving mass promotions to that horrible Redman and Methodman show on FOX, cause they were gonna host it.
I would much rather have people who are in the game industry present awards.

I wonder if anyone told them it's because nobody from the G4TTV community was invited to the show.
Nobody. They had enough celebrities to fill the show floor, so they didn't see the need to actually invite the fans.

And thats why G-Phoria sucks and always will. At least until they change that as well as some other things like last years lame dress award acceptance thing. They shouldn't allow booze there either. I mean gamers already get enough stereotypes against them, we don't need to be thought of as a bunch of drunks as well. I mean if they can't figure out how to do an awards show that isn't just lame then I don't think they should just quit and never do it again.

I was just talking to someone who was there, who is into gaming, and they said it was awesome and went really well.
I talked to Laura and a few other G-4ians and they said the party was awesome. Last years party was great too. I mean, booze, food, and a chance to play some games not out is a cool event. The question is if the television show will be good enough to get ratings. We'll see. Since I wasn't there, I'll be sure to tune in and watch. Once.

Meh, instead of typing it all out, I've decided to just cut and past my response to Gphoria on the G4 forums...
"Gaming is getting so mainstream these days that by gaming or saying you game it makes you cool now...(weird eh?).
What I'm saying is get people who actually PLAY games and know what they are talking about...watching second rate stars read off of a teleprompter sucks and it's embarassing to someone who's been gaming for about 20 years and actually KNOWS what he is talking about.
I never thought I'd say this but I think that gaming maybe is a little too much in the light nowadays.
Give me a dark basement bedroom a controller/system, some good games to play and about 15 hours and that's what I was used to as a kid...Not this glam that they are trying to pass off to us as gaming. I can understand that now that it's popular people wanting to make it mainstream, but, watching some of these so called stars grab their nipples and try to sell me sex over games...it's just makes me squirm. I was going to shut off the show about half way though, but the band that played the song on the Driv3r soundtrack or whatever made me stay on the channel.
I know I'm ranting and I've said this before, but, I wish things were the way they used to be.
The mainstream of gaming will be the death of it soon if we don't remember our ROOTS!"

I really enjoyed when people dropped tidbits about games that they shouldn't have said, like Stan Lee announcing he was working with Atari on a game that will be based off an original character. I saw this and it was pretty much a slap in the face for gamers... I mean if they want us to take it seriously they would think about it...
You're at the oscars... Celebrities are coming down the red carpet... are they asked "Do you watch movies?"... No, because you pretty much assume they do... But at G4ia there's celebrities that don't even play/care about games and they're outright saying it to us they just want to get their names out there... I don't know if If that explains what I mean but sort of... oh and did I hear Dave Navarro say he thought it was going to be the end of his career... why would they show that? : /
They need to get GAMERS, and there's nothing wrong with Celebrity gamers (I can think of a few... hal sparks, ben affleck, wayne brady...) because we can put a face on them easily... but don't throw a bunch of half-ass celebrities that have no idea what they're talking about and say "I'm old school I play frogger and pac-man" at us and expect us to like it...

We the gamers, believe or not, are really not going to get an awards show that really represents us, the industry awards do have integrity and should be taken seriously.I'm finding more and more that that is true. Here's something I noticed--If G-Phoria were truly to be taken seriously, then what were the industry interviews and talks with the insiders in the Pulse After-Show should have actually been the on-stage acceptance speeches in the actual awards ceremony... Tony Hawk and his crew got almost 10 minutes to basically goof off on stage and plug his new game (I know it was one of the exclusive previews, but it was the timing that made it look like a shameless plug) and other games who won awards were represented by the likes of a lame Anna Nicole cosplay. Most of the categories weren't even featured in the show and were instead rattled off by the announcer between commercial breaks. What they needed more of, IMO were things like what they had in the after show--they talked to the producers, programmers, marketing directors, etc., who were actually the ones deserving of the awards--I also respect Mr. Kojima for his acceptance speech and I'm glad they gave the Legend Award to a real legend this time around...oh and did I hear Dave Navarro say he thought it was going to be the end of his career... why would they show that? : /I think he was referring to his parody of the "Star Wars Kid" movie...But maybe that's just me..:D

B list celebs reading cue cards is just horrid. Xplay's award show last year was much better and it was just two people.

I could see that they were trying to make it fun like the Mtv awards, and there was some cool spots, I think (I like when Tony Hawk got roasted). However, since G4 is still relatively a new and pretty low-budget niche cable station, the "celebrities" looked pretty sad in comparison to the typical event that they were trying to emulate.
