I'm not totally sure if this is the right board to set this in, but since it does have to do with me building muscle in relation to martial arts, I guess i'll put it here.

Anways... I am wondering if anyone here has any experience with weight training pretty seriously. I am looking to gain some weight through muscle development, and wanted to ask a question about pre- and post- workout Protein and Carbs. If no one knows the answer... just let it die :cool:

Is it really necessary to intake around 20 grams of Protein post-workout (within the hour)? I heard that without this Protein, the muscle fibers will stay ripped for longer and not repair themselves properly... thus being detrimental to the growth of the muscle. Whenever I work out with weights, my hunger level drops severly and it is very hard for me to choke any type of food down really. So... if I just make sure to eat the Protein sometime afterwards, would I still be getting the same benefit towards my muscle growth?

Also... does anyone think it would be better to intake some slow releasing carbs about 1 hour before, or fast releasing carbs right before my traning block? I have tried both, and nothing really is working for an increase in energy. Any advice?
