View Full Version : WTF are the Bruins thinking?
Joe Thornton for Marco Sturm, Brad Stuart, and Wayne Primeau.
Even if Brad Stuart finally develops into a #1 D-man the Sharks win this deal.
Thornton and Marleau are going to be an awesome 1-2 punch at center for a while then.

Wish I knew. You probably won't see me back in the Garden again this season.
Edit: Unless I decide to catch some C's games.
2nd edit: Wow, I just remembered a friend has some tickets to a game on January 10th. Guess who they're playing? Yup, San Jose. Now that might be fun.

Management thought process: How the Hell can we save $20 million dollars?
Except they only saved like $1.5 million or so. Then again I guess the other players have shorter contracts?

Sturm, Primeau, and Stuart are all signed through next year. Stuart will be a RFA, so you can expect him to remain with the Bruins for another year after that.
They spent up to the cap, nothing panned out, so now they need to get flexible again. With the Scatchard trade, McEachern's being waved, and this, they've cleared about $4 mil off the cap.
Jacobs is a business man, and all he really cares about is the bottom line. But simply trading away your franchise player isn't going to increase revenue. There has to be more to it. I guess they just came to the conclusion that they weren't going to get it done building around Joe, so now they're rebuilding. Though I don't agree with it, I can respect that, but I'm still pissed we didn't get back equal value. But it's in Jacobs interest to ice a competitive team. It really isn't about 'saving' money, as so much as freeing it up. He did spend over what the cap is last season. Sinden came out and said that they plan on maxing out the cap each season. They've messed up, they're trying to fix their mistakes in a radical way. We'll see how things go.
San Jose seemed inclined to trade Marleau so I don't know why they didn't get him. Maybe that wasn't true, but who are they going to build around now? That question won't be answered by the players they just got, and the next draft is looking to be pretty thin after Phil Kessel (and he's no Sidney Crosby despite the U.S. attempt at hype), so they better hope they pick high enough to get him or maybe Frolik.

They're not looking to the draft for a player to rebuild around. They'll do it through trades and free agency. They'll have a decent amount of money to spend next off-season, and I doubt they're done making moves this season.

And then they shut out the best team in hockey. :smt038
Stuart gets a point, and Sturm gets 2 (1G, 1A). Primeau plays great, and draws a couple of penalties. No points for you, Heatley. Hannu rules. http://www.hfboards.com/images/smilies/hockey2.gif
Change of scenery always manages to bring out the best right away for whatever reason. I hope Stuart continues to play inspired for my fantasy team's sake.
