Okay, a couple days ago someone asked this burning question in the G4TTV OT boards, and so far widescreen is winning by a landslide.
So the question is simple, and the answer should be simple, too.
Nothing drives me nuts more than watching a anamporphic scope movie (2.20:1 or larger ascept ratio) in fullscreen format.
If it's 1.85:1, it doesn't hurt it that much, but I'm so used to it now.
Before my family got a DVD player (in 1999), I actually went to Suncoast stores and others buying widescreen VHS copies of movies because I would prefer to watch widescreen.
So the choice for me is simple.
How about you?

This should be a poll.
I'm going with widescreen. I love widescreen. Since 99% of dvd's are in widescreen I decided a long time ago to only buy WS. I feel like I'm missing something when watching fullframe. I can't stand pan and scan either, it ruins a movie.

Widescreen, and watching A League of Their Own last night on cable in fullscreen only proved why it should be a crime to show such movies cropped! Hell, I couldn't even see half the people talking in that movie! Even my Dad saw the difference when I showed him Die Hard in widescreen!

I buy every DVD in widescreen. If I'm going to pay 15 bucks for a movie, I want the whole movie. And plus in a few years I'll probably have a widescreen TV, so I'm going to want the widescreen version. If all my DVD's were full screen, they'd have black bars on the sides, rather than the tops and bottom.

A League of their own is a prime example. There's a lot of panning in that movie. It's very noticable too.

Widescreen is all I buy.
Of course you still find those idiots that come into the videostore and won't rent on dvd if it's not in on vhs because they don't want to only get half the picture.
I then have to break out the kit and educate them.

Why watch a hacked up movie? When you can watch it as the director intended. That is until the director's cut comes out. ;)

I've got a widescreen TV therefore gotta have movies in widescreen or else the people look kinda smooshed in fullscreen mode.

well since we will all be owning widescreen televisions in the next 10 years, i'd think it wise to buy all widescreen, which i was. until my whole dvd collection (except the anime, and all my buffy the vampire seasons) was stolen. 200 dvds, gone. guess who stole them? my fucking brother, pawned them off for drug money. yep, great family i got.

ouch....
Well, of course the answer is wide screen. I think it's best to always go with the original vision it was intended.
