i've really been having problems with bit torrent not downloading fast. in fact i usually have things uploading at 3 or 4 times the speed of my download. i've been using azureus and things have been a lot better, but not an average of 5 k/b a second on cable. the only tip i have gotten is to get a program like netlimiter to limit my uploads. in theory, if i cut the uploads down, they would stop taking from downloads. at least that's what one of the moderators on the suprnova boards said. i downloaded it, cut the uploads to 3 k/b a second, and then it for some reason cut my downloads down.
point of all of this, for those who use this program on a regular basis, are the downloads faster for you? are you doing or using anything to help the download speed?

I told you all, Bit Torrent has seen better days. Bit Torrent used to be AWESOME, but now it just sucks. Plain and simple, no one uploads anymore.

First, get this (http://bittornado.com/)
ok, now when you are downloading a torrent, set the upload limit (the first slider on the bottom) to 20 kb or 13 kb.
Now you should have better downloads.

I too have been having some big problems with BitTorrent lately, I'm not sure why though.

Limiting your upload isn't the best idea. BitTorrent really only works if you're sharing. If you're throttling your upload down, then BT is going to limit the amount you can download.
Do you have a firewall? To be safe, I opened up TCP ports 6881-7881 on my firewall and I have absolutely no troubles with BT. Of course, I also predominantly download from private trackers with a large userbase, so I rarely ever have problems downloading.

I don't rate that at all. If you wait a couple of weeks after a release, yes, its going to be more difficult to download because people will have stopped seeding. But if what you're looking for is even moderately popular, getting it right away is absolutely not a problem.
And with the ability for trackers to ban IP addresses based on their cumulative ratio, people have been much more inclined to at least share 1:1.
Such was never the case with eDonkey/Overnet.

I usually upload twice as much as I download before I finish anything with a few exceptions like smaller files.
:P
But Bit Torrent is a good program, just give it time, and it depends on the seeds and peers.

I haven't had any trouble at all. I usually set one or two downloads before I go to sleep and most times they are done when I wake up. Some things take a day or two but I'm cool with that. Many of the things I get aren't available in any other way so I'm more than happy to wait a day or two.
My dl speed usually ranges from 5kbs-60kbs depending on how many seeds there are. The best I ever got was 130kbs while downloading some comics.

Alright, I just started this, so I guess I have an ettique question. It says to leave the window open even after down downloading. So, when you shut your PC down and get it back on later, is there something you are supposed to open up to continue to leave the window open?

You don't really need to Seed. If you are done, you can close it. But If you want to help out, just keep it open for a little after finishing.
I usually do the overnight thing and it works out ok for the most part. Some things take longer but really how can you complain. What i like about it is that people really are sharing more than just DVD and Mp3. I do think it's weird that people are charging for access to torrents that are available for free, but I guess the market is there.
I also have upload speeds alot more than the download but throttling it only goes against what makes it work.

well, sometimes you have to throttle the download, I go with 40 KB up, that usually is enough, for slower connections i would go with 20 kb.
