If you've never heard of the Joe Schmo Show, basically it's a fake reality show, where everyone know's it's fake except one or two people. Last year, it was just one Joe Schmo, and he never figured out that everyone around him was an actor and everything was scripted.

This season, they're doing a parody of the dating shows (Bachelor, Bachelorette) and they have TWO schmos, a Joe and a Jane...

Of course, the twist has already occured, but it airs on SpikeTV right after Monday Night RAW...

...Anyone else watch it?

I saw the fisrt Jo Schmoe when they had a marathon before the final episode. I loved it. I didn't know they made a second one. How many episodes have been on so far? Do they replay them?

There have been four episodes. There should be a marathon soon (hopefully with the full 90 minute episode that they advertised for this week but cut down to 60 minutes at the last minute due to "ratings fears") but they do replay the episode several times a week. Check tvguide.com - but I think the times are Mondays at 11:05, Tuesdays at 10:00, and Sundays at 8:00 or something.

Just to add to it, for those who haven't heard of it, they DO let the Schmo in on it eventually, and they DO offer the prize money and all the prizes to that person for "being a good sport". They don't do it to humiliate the Schmo (like The WB's Superstar USA) they just do it to add suspense.

The neatest thing about the show is that they openly discuss the production. They'll show the producer meetings where they argue about how to proceed when something happens that jeapordizes the hoax. They'll show the actor's meetings, and stuff. (And the interviews with the actors are with the ACTORS, not the characters they are portraying.) It's actually more real than most reality shows in that aspect.

Did the first guy come anywhere close to figuring out it was a hoax?

Nope. He never got close. They THOUGHT he did, and it caused some tense moments, but he was really oblivious.

There were also some screwups by the actors that they thought he would catch onto, but he didn't.

This season is a different story.

There was a couple close calls where the actors f'd up, but he didn't find out til they told him at the end.

I watched the first one and liked that one, but I just don't seem as interested in this one for some reason. I tried watching a little bit of it but I just can't seem to get into it. I'll try watching the whole thing when they eventually show a marathon of it though.

The only two reality shows I have ever liked really are Joe Schmo and Mad Mad House on the Sci-Fi channel. Then the first Surviving Nuggent I guess, I haven't seen the second one. For the most part reality sucks and its only here because the masses of stupid people love it.

As Tommy Lee Jones said it best in Men in Black: "A person is smart, people are stupid".

I saw the first one and it was really good. The first "Joe" actually threw the producers for a loop when they didn't predict what he was doing or gonna do. He actually cried when one of the "players" got voted out. He was a good guy deep down.

I've only seen commercials for the second show. Did "Jane" actually figure out it was fake and they had to replace her?

Well you spoiled it, but yeah.

But the first "Jane" is still on the show...She's just now in on it.

They spoiled it cuz I saw that in a commercial. How did she figure it out though?

She paid attention and actually caught things that was going on around her.

She caught how the speeches at the first eviction ceremony seemed scripted and prepared - but she was never told to have a prepared speech.

She caught how one of the contestants seemed to bring JUST ENOUGH envelopes for everyone on the cast - but she was never told how many people were going to be there.

She didn't buy one of the storylines at all.

When she asked one of the first contestants (who were eliminated in the first 15 minutes) how she got selected for the show, the model replied "Through my agent, I just got the call yesterday."

Basically, the Joe (and new Jane) haven't figured it out, but she was onto them from the first minute, making Truman Show references.

I think it would be pretty cool if they did another one of these or something and the person like found out like the "Jane" from this one, but he or she doesn't let anyone know. So basically that person just plays along and says at the end the he/she knew all along and was just "going with the flow".

What I think their going to do for the next one though is try and fool the audiance. Like they do a third one but the "Joe Schmo" is really in on it and just pretends, but us the viewing public think hes just another guy their trying to fool. I'm sure they will try that eventually since thats the concept of their show to fool people.

Well, she actually tried that. The "Jane" knew but wouldn't tell the producers anything, because she wanted to see where it went. She didn't want to get kicked off the show for figuring it out.

As for the last one, on one of the other forums I frequent, Rhett Reese, one of the producers of the show (and he's all over Joe Schmo 2 in interviews) hangs out a lot and says stuff. He says that the joke will NEVER be on the audience. Everyone is afraid that the real Schmo's are the audience, but he says that would ruin his reputation as a TV show producer and he doesn't want that. So as long as Rhett is involved, I am sure that the joke isn't on me.

I tried to watch the premiere episode during the first season, but I ended up falling asleep. I just think SpikeTV is shitty television, that gives men a bad name

Ya, I watched the original, and I am watching the current. What I am confused about is that they kicked off "Joe" on the episode....why would they do that? Hes like....what the show is based around....

While this show is good, it just doesn't compare to the first season. Plus, they've had too many instances of booted people returning.

Blackwolf

That's a parody on reality TV, though. Survivor had a bunch of booted contestants returned, and dating shows always have at least one or two people return in a season. JS2 is just trying to push the envelope.

Nothing will compare to the first season, but I'm not trying to compare it to the first season. No, neither Tim, Amanda, nor Ingrid are as compelling as an MKG (Schmo from season 1) but they're their own people, and I'm enjoying it.

Kinda sad to know that next Tuesday at 9PM is the series finale, and there's no JS3 in the works. Guess ratings just weren't as good this time around...

*bump*

Show's over, and I liked the finale. Apparently Tim was a little pissed for about 10 minutes (which really hurt Valerie, who played Piper the Bachelorette) but he's gotten over it and is enjoying everything now. They didn't do enough to make Tim not fall for Piper, but they did do enough to make Amanda not exactly interested in Austin. And Ingrid wound up winning her check too.

Apparently Ingrid is setting up some fund for reality TV show contestants to donate a portion of their winnings and then having the TV companies match that donation to help others, I'll have to go find the link, I saw it over on the Tivocommunity forums (where there is a huge Joe Schmo fanbase).

They should have realized that "Jane" was going to figure out what was really going on, whereas "joe" still didn't have a clue.
