Basically as the thread title says. I have had 3 negative reps, all taking my down for 1 point each and all 3 with no comments at all. That is what pisses me off the most. What pisses me off just about as much is for the posts they were given. My guess is they were all given by the same person so I ask if that can be found out please. I got a negative rep for asking a question(what the referral was), for not thinking something was funny, and then for joking around with arefx about the Patriots beating the New York football teams.

DO I even need to mention who the reigning Super Bowl champs are? Unless does he mean he came to Gillette Stadium to wave goodbye to the Patriots as they left to go to the Super Bowl last year? That must be it, otherwise it just wouldn't make sense.
Thats the post I got a negative rep for. I think obviously its just the same person who has some type of grudge against me so now they are giving me negative rep for no reason. I mean how is it a bad thing to ask a freaking question? That is against the point of the rep system, its supposed to be used if someone spams or is a bad poster, not if they try to find out how something on the site works. So just a little help please. Thanks.
BTW, I'm sure I will get negative rep for this post to.

OH NO! NOT THREE REPUTATION POINTS!
Stop the presses! Call the hounds! Scandal! We must find the perpetrator and hang him !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I agree that it should be manditory to leave comments, but I disagree that we should have to reverse reuptation given by other members when it's just three fricken points.
Negative reputation is given at half strength as positive reputation, so it's harder to get negative rep instead of positive anyway. I'm not so sure why some people take three whole reputation points so seriously...
I'd look for you to see who did it, but when it was revealed that I could look into that stuff, people felt that was unfair and called for the ability to be stripped from me (which it has been.)
I got negative rep for the thing about my drumset, saying "stop the bragging mr. moneybags"...Don't see me whining about it in a thread.

Why not just flat out not use it? We already did away with post counts...why not this? I think it's just a pain in the ass when you first go to your UCP and see bad rep for a post that didn't deserve it.

It is needed to distinguish the good from the bad.
since we've all pretty much came from G4, we all survived without it before, didn't we? Besides, one man's trash, is another man's treasure. I'm not here to be judged by people for posts that might not be taken the right way, or by people who don't have the right sence of humor, or no humor at all. Plus, I'm sure there'll be dicks who wanna give bad rep just to be a dick.

I thought you couldn't get negative repped twice by one person untill 20 other people did, unless they changed it. Some people take things differently then others, and some people are just assholes... I would think you would get some + for this topic though, it has some good points, but then again people view things in different ways.

I have to agree with BW...
I've gotten negative rep for saying a canadian accent... lol... I was like w/e cuz it was probably an insulted canadian... You also have to figure the person that gave u negative rep. for no reason is most likely doing it to everyone, so it evens out.

If you bothered to read my post BlackWolf, as you apprently didn't, you would know that I didn't care about the 3 points so much as I did about the lack of comments and for the posts they were givin. Did I even ask for it to be reversed and the 3 points restored? No I didn't. Clearly your making more of a big deal out of thise tyring to mock me then I am. I didn't ask for the points to be reversed, nor would I expect that, all I want to know is if it was the same person all 3 times. Nor do I expect to be told who that person or persons are.
The point of why I am making a big deal out of this though is because there is obviously one or more people on these forums who just likes to give out bad rep to be a jackass, or to piss everyone off by giving it for stupid things. What happens when this person or persons get alot more posts? They will be able to negativly effect good members reps very quickly. Thus making good members look like the spammers and trouble makers of the forums. Considering not many people use the rep feature to begin with, so the "negative rep is only at half strength" point doesn't work. While the person(s) gradually effect people more and more over time but only at half as many positive points, not enough people use the positive points to "offset" the effect if you will, which in turns brings reps down for good posts/questions. THAT was my point, not to make a big deal out of the 3 points taken away from me.

Well I don't expect you to work yourself to death trying to do this. I mean I think most people here would like it to be done, but if its going to take a ton of time and be a ton or work, then don't bother. We don't want you to take alot of time out of your life just to cater to us and everything we want. I'm just kind of pissed off that someone, or more then one person, gave me a bad rep for a stupid reason and then to make it worse didn't even tell me why they did.
I think bad rep should only be given to someone if they making a spamming post, or a falmming post. Basically anything that would "break the rules" and just generally make you seem to be an asshole. Not for asking questions or not laughing at something, or liking one football team over another like what happened to both Alias and I. That I believe is abusing the system since how the hell can you honestly give someone a bad rep for liking their hometeam football team more then another team? I think anyone who would do that is just here to cause trouble and basically be a jerk by giving stupid bad reps.

Exactly what I was saying. I made a comment in the User Rep thread. Back and forth all different numbers as to how to get rep etc, and I had made a comment "see, you do need math, study it" or something like that. That got bad rep. For what? That guy too stupid to add and subtract, so I gotta get bad rep for it?
And again, like I stated, I'm not asking anything to be reverese, but try to make it so it's a legitimate reason, not cause "i don't understand your humor."

If it makes you feel any better, you can only affect negative rep at HALF strength.
So all the idiots that only affect 1 point actually affect 0 if they give a negative.

Not really...cause to me, it's not the "rep points" I have... it's just the fact, that people are giving bad rep for, what I can tell, no reason.
plus, should someone get a bad rep post simply because they disagree?

Well I think there needs to be some type of regulation on it or something. Someone or someones are obviously abusing the system. Notive how all of us have gotten bad rep for stupid things? How would you like it Blackwolf if I gave you a negative rep for letting us all know that negative rep is given at half strength? I'm sure you would think it wasn't deserved, well thats how we feel since thats the type of stuff we are getting bad rep for. Thats why I'm saying I would like to know if its the same person who gave it to me all 3 times, as well as it should be looked at if it was the same person for Alias and anyone else who got bad rep for stupid reasons. Then if it is I think that person should be banned for abusing the system and just trying to piss people off.

Yeah I would like to officially register a complaint anyway.
The one and only negative rating I have gotten was utterly ridiculous. :smt011
I swear if I find out the condescending bitch who gave me negative feedback for a completely ridiculous reason.
A curse on their head I say.
Now don't get me wrong if I said something stupid or rude, fine give me negative feedback but not for me making a joke.
That's just abusing the rating feature.
Sorry rant over,I just needed to vent :smt013

He's had just such kind of disapprovals. Remember, he's the most hated person around. Be it because you're jealous of his status as a mod, or his BIG MONEY, his quasi-fame, or his big penis.*
He's said before that he doesn't really care because its only one point. The vast majority of people who use the rep feature will not abuse it. That's why, if you make good points, more people are likely to respond postively, negating any sort of negative responses accumulated due to abuse.
*Note: I really have no idea the size of his penis.

I think the amount of points you effect someone is based off of your post count. Might be like every 50 posts is one point, but I am not sure.

Yes thats it. Its every 50 posts gives you one rep point to effect someone. Also every 50 rep points gives you 1 effect point as well. So 100 posts=2 effect points.
And Duality I haven't given Blackwolf any bad rep at all. Infact the only rep I have given him was a positive one. I would be a hyprocrite if I complained about getting stupid negative reps and then gave them outmyself. Also unlike most people apparently, I don't have anything against Blackwolf at all. I just am sick of this basically abuse of the rating system. I don't think it is, or should be, there to just bitch about people because you don't like them. Bad rep should only be given if its an actual bad post, like spam or just completly ripping on someone unprovoked or unwarrented. How can you possibly say that liking your hometown football team deserves bad rep?
Duality
08-16-2004, 08:55 PM
But don't you see? That's exactly how it does work. Or, at the very least, will when there are more people.
Actual responses that deserve negative rep will be given negative rep by more than one person. A response that doesn't will get one or two points lost because of abuse.
When a response that deserves positive rep, it will be given by more than one person. If someone is just abusing the system and giving positive rep to a friend, then that won't count as much.
The greater the positive or negative response, the more that will be deserved.
Example: You recieved negative rep for a response by one person. The Matrix, after making his Unban Me thread, recieved a lot of negative rep, because it was seen as deserving.

As we've all learned from Adam Sandler's "Happy Gilmore"..sometimes it only takes 1 idiot heckler to make you mad.
It's not about the amount...it's more the principle to me really. A lot or a little...just seeing it is annoying.

But it's just the Internet. It shouldn't make you mad. :>
The system has actually shown to work quite well, in the case of kirkg and arefx especially. The only thing that's wrong with it is some oversensitive people worried about one or two points that they lost because someone gave them negative rep for something that the poster didn't agree with.
BTW, Arandar, somebody DID give me negative rep for my post in this thread. My response is "Oh well, them's the breaks."
If I said something TRULY bad, such as my comments in the NASCAR thread, I'd get negative rep from multiple people, which I did. If it's just one or two idiots, the good rep far outweighs the bad rep.
I've probably gotten more negative rep than anyone except kirkg and Zorn...But I've also gotten enough positive rep to more than make up for it. The system works, whether you like it or not.
