Several months ago, my local theater (It's not realyl local. It's about a 30 minute drive away, but it's worth it, as all my true local theaters are crap) decided to start being much, much cooler. The manager decided to begin showing old "classics" once a month. So, for the past few months, they've been showing older films on the first Friday of the month, at midnight. At first, I missed out; didn't see Fight Club, Scarface, Superman, and, worst of all, Ghostbusters :() But my friends and I started going a couple months ago. Last month, we saw The Goonies, which was completely awesome. This month, we say Raiders of the Lost Ark, which was beyond awesome. Next month, we'll be seeing Pulp Fiction.

We eventually got into a conversation with the manager about what films they will be showing. He seems to want to keep it along a seasonal line for now, i.e. in October, they will be showing Friday the 13th. We then began discussing what should be shown in December. My friend and I suggested The Nightmare Before Christmas, but the manager didn't think it would play well. He said he and his staff had narrowed it down to two films: Gremlins and Christmas Vacation. Christmas Vacation was moderately funny, but it's not close to even being the best Vacation movie. Gremlins, on the other hand, is gold. Pure gold. I lobbied for it. The manager personally seemed to lean towards Gremlins, but he stated that his staff preferred C.V. I then stated, in all sincerity, "I don't like your staff."

And so, I ask you, fellow forum members, out of sheer curiosity, which movie do you prefer? Gremlins, or Christmas Vacation?

Choose wisely.

Both are great great movies. I like CV better, but Gremlins would be a better theater experience. I've seen CV more than any other movie. During Christmas time in college we had it playing almost every day from Thanksgiving til we went home for winter break.

how could you vote against cousin eddie, maybe the funniest movie character ever. chevy chase is hillarious too, really too bad his career disappeared.

Christmas Vacation has become a must-watch once December rolls around! "Merry Christmas! Shitter's full!" Let's see Gizmo beat that kind of dialog!

Over 40 views, and only two people could be bothered to vote? Wow. So much for finding a consensus.

Chevy Chase is a GOD... i seriously love everyone one of the vacation movies.... gremlins are cool too... but the snow would get them wet, and I like them to play nice. So Christman Vacation!

Oh and that's awesome that your movie theatre does that, I wish mine did.

Gremlins is my favorite holiday movie ever. The old woman getting launched from her window is gold.

I honestly don't think I could choose between these two. They both get me in the holiday spirit. Of course the old Rankin/Bass stop motion Rudolph cartoon owns them both!

I like Christmas Vacation better.
I love the part with the squirrel in the tree that trashes the living room then jumps on Julia-Louis Dreyfus.
And the part when cousin Eddie kidnaps Clark's boss (who is Bill Murray's older brother BTW).
Too many funny memories.
