Several months ago, my local theater (It's not realyl local. It's about a 30 minute drive away, but it's worth it, as all my true local theaters are crap) decided to start being much, much cooler. The manager decided to begin showing old "classics" once a month. So, for the past few months, they've been showing older films on the first Friday of the month, at midnight. At first, I missed out; didn't see Fight Club, Scarface, Superman, and, worst of all, Ghostbusters :() But my friends and I started going a couple months ago. Last month, we saw The Goonies, which was completely awesome. This month, we say Raiders of the Lost Ark, which was beyond awesome. Next month, we'll be seeing Pulp Fiction.
We eventually got into a conversation with the manager about what films they will be showing. He seems to want to keep it along a seasonal line for now, i.e. in October, they will be showing Friday the 13th. We then began discussing what should be shown in December. My friend and I suggested The Nightmare Before Christmas, but the manager didn't think it would play well. He said he and his staff had narrowed it down to two films: Gremlins and Christmas Vacation. Christmas Vacation was moderately funny, but it's not close to even being the best Vacation movie. Gremlins, on the other hand, is gold. Pure gold. I lobbied for it. The manager personally seemed to lean towards Gremlins, but he stated that his staff preferred C.V. I then stated, in all sincerity, "I don't like your staff."
And so, I ask you, fellow forum members, out of sheer curiosity, which movie do you prefer? Gremlins, or Christmas Vacation?
Choose wisely.
