A worthwhile petition

There are very few times in the course of the Internet that an online petition has any meaning or makes a valid point. Most petitions seem to ask that the name of Lord Of The Rings movies be changed to be sensitive to current events, or discuss that Bert is evil.

This one, however, is different.

My esteemed colleague HerrmDogg has started a petition addressed to US Congress to make the release day of Fable a national holiday (http://www.petitiononline.com/Fable/petition.html).

Finally, a cause worth signing for.

Wow thats the saddest thing I have ever heard of in my life. I'm just suprised its not a double petition for Halo 2 as well. I think its pretty simple though, no Mario or Nintendo games in general have an official holiday, no Final Fantasy games have a holiday, nor any other game for that matter, so why should Fable get one? Yeah it looks to be a great game, and I will definatly pick it up once I get an X-Box, but a national holiday? Do you know how much of an extreme X-Box fanboy you have to be to even suggest that? Let alone actually believe it.

When The Two Towers came out my roommate at school was like "how can they name that movie the Two Towers, it reminds me of September 11th". I was like " the movies are based on books written over 50 years ago, it's not like they came up with the name a couple months ago".

I say I think bad reps should only be given if its something that actually deserves it and a comment should be given and then you claim I'm whining. Of the games you mentioned how many got a 12 page preview?

The Raven doesn't even have a Xbox and he is a Fanboy for this game. Also please don't compare this to FF, this is for 8-12 olds, this is a big boy game.

The use of the term "esteemed colleague" and the use of alliteration towards fake petitions then a petition about something as absurd as making a video game release date a national holiday pretty much clued everyone else in. This isn't the only place I posted that same text, and everyone else got it.

I guess it's because my humor is more geared toward an older crowd who can detect that type of stuff. For that, I apologize. I'll remember to dumb down my humor while I'm here.

Also, had you actually read the TEXT of the petition, it was basically one line that ended with "So are you with me OR ARE YOU WITH ME!!!!!!!???????" It was blatantly obvious that it was a joke even then as well. Anytime someone uses their chat handle to make a petition just shows how facetious it really is.

Doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure that out. Hell, ZORN figured it out of all people.

We have to remember that with just text alone, you can miss the tonal inflections and visual cues that come when someone's joking. Also, I know I've read somethings when i've been having a bad day or just totally pissed (as in angry or drunk) and mistook what someone wrote.
