I started this sort of thread over at the Home Theater Forum boards and am interested to see what moments in movies really blew you guys away, either at the theater or on DVD.
A few that really stand out for me:
Opening shot in Star Wars
The Mothership rising up behind Devil's Tower in Close Encounters of the Third Kind
The lobby scene from The Matrix
And Jamie Lee Curtis in Trading Places (yeah, THAT scene!)
There are tons of others, but this is a start.

Heh the nice dormroom scene is Lost and Delerious. Some of you may know what I'm talking about. :D I actually liked the movie to and watch the whole thing. Go figure.
Then basically all the Star Wars and Matrix scenes everyone else mentioned.

that movie got me so depressed, that I couldnt play my socom correctly afterwards. Lost and Delirious btw, not matrix or star wars.
If you guys have seen spun, its a movie about speed, but anyways theres a scene where the two lead characters: jason swartzman and brittany murphey are driving in the car. and they do a hit of speed. and they're talking.
but its the cinematography during this scene that I think is so visually attractive. theres so much going on with camera angles and everything during this scene. that it would take me so long to explain how it looks visually.
but everytime im just blown away, its literally like sensory overload while watching this scene.

The lawnmower scene at the end of Dead Alive, and most of the other scenes in that last half.
The showdown in the hospital at the end of the Frighteners. It was so light-hearted until then, but showdown scene was surprisingly dark.
Bub with a gun in Day of the Dead.
How hilariously shitty Jack Frost and Jack Frost 2 were.
