Ok, I know that they are like $99 bucks now, but I dont see anything that I like. I just think that the X Box and PS2 are better systems. Those are the ones that you hear the most about. Now I'm not bashing the GC, or any Nint. Fanboys out there. I want to make that point clear. I respect what they have done. But, unless someone on this thread can convince me otherwise, I see no reason to own one.

If you don't like the games that are exclusive to the Gamecube, there IS NO reason to own one. Period.

If you don't see anything you like, save your money.

I love the games on the Gamecube, personally, so I'm not bashing it either. But I'm a realist, too. Even though the N-Gage's are down in price doesn't mean I'll get one - because there's nothing exclusive to the system that I'd like.

Depends on what type of games you're into. Let me know a genre, I can name some games.

I bought a gamecube after I saw the new Zelda game footage from E3 this summer. The reason to own a cube is for the nintendo exclusives. These are my reasons for not only owning it......but enjoying it. I play counter-strike and own a xbox *halo, ninja gaiden, morrowind, espn football 2k5* So im not a fanboy.....but I do like alot of what nintendo has done.

1. Tales of Symphonia #1 selling cube game of the summer.....I've been playing RPGs since Dragon Warrior on the NES. Secret of Mana, Chrono Trigger....played them all. Yet this is prolly my favorite RPG to date. The main draw of this game is the chaotic and insanely fun combat! Unison attacks are like icing on a freshly baked cake! Its a nice long 80 hour adventure with plenty of replay value! The basis of the story is somewhat generic....but once you get into the loveable characters *who are superbly voiced by well known anime VAs*....the plot twist will have you like "Get the hell out of here......no he didn't" On top of that the game varies based on your character relationships. Multiple endings.....etc

2. Wind Waker....don't let the graphics fool you like they fooled me initially. This is the best Zelda game to date! The fighting engine was improved upon from Ocarina of time *counter attacks and different slashes/combos* The combat in this had me craving my next enemy encounter!

3 Viewtiful Joe- Innovative and insanely fun.....bullet-time on crack!

4. Mario Sunshine *heh I couldn't help myself*

5. Metroid Prime *filter says its the best looking game on a console*

What the future holds *new zelda, paper mario 2, metroid prime2, Resident Evil 4*

SaNkOn-TeSsOu, You have to remember...It all depends on his taste in genres. He may not like the games you listed.

Noobtastic!

If you don't like there exclusives (Zelda, Mario, Metroid, etc.) than your better off sticking with your XBox and PS2. If you do like those kind of games than it's a steal at $99! I personally love my Gamecube just as much as my XBox.

RE4 and the new Zelda look good, but neither are a reason to have a GC NOW. Since they won't be out til next year I would wait to buy one. You may find a good $50 used GC sale or something by then.

i bought mine because it's cute, and i wanted to the gameboy player...and there was animal crossing. that was all nice for a year, but i haven't turned it on since late last year. so, it just remains a decoration for my room.

agreed. I would not get one because the games exclusive to it don't appeal to me as, say, the exclusives on the PS2 and Xbox

also, if you really want online play with alot of your games, you should stay away from the GC

if you like more mature games, while there are a ok amount of them on the GC by third party developers, in my opinion they control better on the other consoles (thanks the the GC's plain bad controler), and there are few exclusive mature games for the GC. If you are a parent, and want your kid to play all kinds of games, and that little extra for you, this is a good buy.

Also, for $100, you can get yourself a nice 512mb stick of RAM for your PC, or 3 or 4 PC games, and 2 other console games. And if you don't see a need to get the exclusive games, then there is no point to get it, it's a waste.

It's all about the exclusives.

Mario, Metroid, Zelda, Resident Evil, Super Smash Bros, Pikmin, etc. Gameboy player is nice too if you wanna expand the library even more.

I picked it up a few days ago because of the new zelda and re4.
Right now i'm playing metroid prime, and it is insainly addictive, and I have no clue why. But... Duke, be warned metroid isn't a true FPS, its also a platformer, some people think its a straight up FPS then play it and say WTF?

I don't see how it's really a platformer...However, I will agree it's not an actual FPS, it's more of a First Person Action/Adventure.

I guess it's a platformer because of all the jumping you need to do. Traditional FPS's don't involve as much jump as Metroid Prime does. Metroid Prime also involves a lot of basck tracking.

Connectivity + E-Reader=2 pointless peripherals that earn Nintendo smalls amounts of money when they could easily dump both of those and put that money to something more worthwile like........ Oh I don't know, online play?

Word, I agree fully.

Ok, sorry it took me so long to get back on this thread. I had to go back to work , so. As far as the types of games I like, I'll basicly play anything as long as its good. Not a huge fan of platformers, but they have there place. I have a PS2 & a X Box so the online thing is taken care of. I just think that Nintendo has lost its edge. Without question they will go down as one of the greatest companys that gaming has ever seen. Atari, Sony, Sega and Nintendo are all historic companys. The vertict is still out on M$, although I hope that they can be mentioned in the same breath as those companies.

NOW, I dont want to get off on a rant here. But, I am a firm believer that Nintendo will suffer the same fate as Sega. The first death nail was the PS1. Without question, the PS1 changed gaming forever. It gave the console to the adults, not just kids. Nintendo never rebounded from that. They continued to make mostly kiddie games. It wasnt until they saw the sales figures, that they started to make more adult games. GoldenEye and the like are prime examples of when they opened the flood gates and alowed more adult games. Death Nail #2 : PS2 and X Box. These consoles flat out changed the game, and Nintendo couldnt counter. They are last in sales, least mentioned in the press, and think that gimmicks sell games. Again, personal openion here. So, the last death nail will either be the PSP or PS3. These next-gen systems will be Nintendo's last chance at a console life. The PSP, IMO, will kill the DS. The DS is just too gimmicky for my liking. The "Revolution" as it is being called, is Nintendo's Last Stand. It will probably go the way of the Dreamcast. A good system, but in the end killed by its compation.

Sorry for the long post. I will step down from my soapbox now. LET THE FLAMING BEGIN. :smt066

If all you care about is "adult games," don't own one.

Of course "adult games" are just a lame mainstream gimmick that could be dead in a couple years (please). Just because you can kill ppl hundreds of different ways or whatnot in a game doesn't make it automatically better in my opinion.
Maybe you should look a little harder at those "kiddy" Nintendo games and see that they're a lot harder than they look.

Nintendo is still in good shape.
They will not go they way of Sega!
Especially since if they do quit gaming, they won't be like Sega and give their games to Sony or MS, they'll just fold the American division and it'll be our loss.

EDIT: Sorry if I sound angry, but I always get a little sick of threads and comments like this.
I respect your opinion, even if I think it's probably false.

Let me first say that I respect everyones opinion as I hope you do mine. You dont have to agree with it, just respect it. When I say more "adult games" I dont mean GTA and the like. I mean the evolution of the console. My generation was the first real gaming gen. We were born in the early 80's, when Atari was king. I still remember my Dad geting me my NES, which I still have. Without question, I was hooked. But back then, it was just us kids that could call ourselfs "gamers".

We hounded our parents for new games, rentals, gaming mags. (the original Nintendo Power, YEAH) Now, the adults may have sat in on a game of Mario now and then, but they weren't the ones playing Zelda till 2 a.m on a school night. They werent the ones playing Spy Hunter and Double Dragon. That was our turf. As we got older the games grew. SNES, Genesis (Still the beter system if you ask me), TurboGrafix 16 and so on and so forth. While these systems caried on the evolution of gaming, non of them brought the adults into the mix. Not till the PS1, were adults seen as a viable market for video games. IMO, this is due to the fact that my Generation grew up. We wanted more than the tipical run, jump, solve this, solve that. We wanted emerision. We wanted to feel more than what we were.

We were teenagers at this point. Not only did we know everything there was to know, we knew how to make it better. Sony captured that. They took a market that was targeted toward pre-teens and turned it into a market for all ages. Games like NBA, Madden, WCW, WWF, and others were now not only for kids. Sports games helped to start this trend, as far as I am concerned. The console and game developers for Sony saw that we were growing up and made there games to reflect that.

Nintendo on the other hand, continued to push Mario, Zelda, and others down our necks. Now, while we had a lot of fun with these games when we were kids, you can only save the Princess so many times before you want to kill someone. Thus the shift towards more grown up content. The PC gaming community also had alot to do with this "trend" toward more adult orented games. Doom, Myst, and others gave an alternative to the "kiddie" world of gaming.

And I dont even put the GBA in the same catagory as the PS2 or X Box. One is a handheld, the others are home consoles, nuff said. And the GBA wouldnt have half of the numbers it has if it wasnt for the Pokemon games. Thats a fact Nintendo itself admits. I dont know one adult that owns a GBA. Granted, most of my friends are a little more casual toward gaming than me or most people on this board. But the fact still stands.

Now let me tie up some other points that were made, as I finish this half-drunken ramble. Resident Evil 4, yeah that series died for me after RE2. Just cant get into killing zombies for 10 hours and there being no REAL point. The plots are as thin as paper, and just as weak. Which brings me to Metroid Prime 2. Now as I said before, I was an NES freak. Metroid was one of my favorite games ever. And while it may be my loss, I think that Killzone and Halo 2 will satisfiy and void that MP2 would leave. Zelda will be the only one that I will truely miss. I love the new MORE ADULT Link. Hell, I might even buy a GC just for that one.

Again, Sorry for the dunken ramble. Please keep and open mind. And as always, LET THE FLAMING BEGIN. :smt066
