Former Boxer McNeeley Charged In Stoughton Robbery
(CBS4) STOUGHTON Former heavyweight boxer Peter McNeeley is under arrest again.
This time Stoughton police say he drove the getaway car in a robbery early Thursday morning at a Walgreen's drug store.
Witnesses say 47-year-old Robert Perry went into the Walgreen’s on Washington Street around 1 a.m. and walked around the store nervously for several minutes.
They say he finally went up to the clerk with a black fanny pack and demanded money. The clerk thought there was a gun in the bag and gave him some cash. Perry allegedly demanded more, the clerk gave it to him and he left the store.
Police say Perry got into car where McNeeley was waiting and they drove off towards Canton. Canton police were notified, they pulled the men over and arrested them.
Officers found $180 in cash and the black fanny pack, but no weapon.
Both men pleaded not guilty in Stoughton District Court Thursday afternoon.
McNeeley's father, Tom, tells CBS4 his son has a drug and alcohol problem. "I think he gets taken advantage of by people that he's got no right being around," said Tom McNeeley. He also said his son will not make bail and stay behind bars.
This is the second time McNeeley’s been arrested this year.
Back in March, he was charged with punching a man and stealing his wallet outside the Shamrock Pub in Norwood. He pleaded not guilty to that charge.
McNeeley is best known for one fight, which he lost - a 1995 bout with Mike Tyson, which lasted only 89 seconds and ended by TKO in the first round.
