George Lucas is releasing THX 1138 (http://www.wired.com/wired/archive/12.09/play.html?pg=2). Looks like some portion of the flick has been digitally redone. Should be interesting to watch it again. I saw it once years ago and enjoyed.
I think this bit from the article sums up what I think has happened to Mr. Lucas:
"The most uncompromising movie of his career, THX was the battle cry of a subversive 26-year-old visionary before he suffocated under the burden of his own mythology."

I really like the film, I'm definitely going to see the re-release in theaters.

I've noticed on some movie forums a little debate of the new footage and revamped scenes in the new director's cut.
Here's a comparison of the 2004 director's cut and the 1971 original:

Yeah, I've heard they've totally redone the effects and all that, but I heard this is one of the few times when the fixes are welcome. It actually does make the movie better unlike what they did with ET, and some of the Star Wars stuff.

Hopefully that's true. I never got to see the origional, and I don't want my first viewing to be messed with too much.

Same here, it sounds like these new edits may have improved the film. I rarely go out to movies theaters, but I just might on this occasion.
