GREETINGS AND SALUTATIONS, GOOD PEOPLE!!!!!!

We are excited to announce the pilot episode of All Games Radio's very own comic book podcast, Fantastic Forum! Moe, Oscar, Joe, and myself will be teaming up to give you another take on the industry that has inspired "fanboism" for generations. The Pilot will air live! on December 14th starting at 1:00pm PST. Moey Ramone will be on hand to give you the best of the indie comic scene, Poacher Oscar is our resident DC efficiando, Joe Cool will be handling the Manga and non-superhero comic chores, and yours truly gets to represent for the mighty Marvelites! Of course you'll hear everyones take on the mainstream comic scene and some of the big events that are happening in the industry. This is your first chance to weigh in on what topics you want us to cover and what you would want to see out of your comic podcast. So without further ado begin the posting my comic brethren.

I'd like to offer up an 8 hour symposium discussing symbolism and imagery utilized in Frank Miller's epic, The Dark Knight Returns. :p

Can't wait to hear the show, Mayor and co. ;)

EDIT: Now that I think about it, I think it would be really cool if you discussed...even briefly...how the speculative market combined with corporate greed almost killed the industry. Deep and (somewhat) dark stuff, I know...but I think it's cool to see just how what happened back in the early 90's set the stage for what many consider a renaissance of sorts for the industry today. I'd also love a recap as I'm one of those poor, unfortunate souls who truly loves the medium but left comics in the aftermath of the glut of poorly conceived, poorly executed, cheap, cash-in comics unleashed upon the marketplace.

I won't be able to listen live (that damn work thing), but I'll catch the archives for sure.

How about a big discussion on Watchmen? Great graphic novel and now the movie that has been talked about for probably 15 years is supposed to be in the making for a 2008 release. What do you guys think should be in the movie? What should be cut out?

On the manga front I want to hear about Death Note. Number 8 just came out and man that one has given me whip-lash the last few volumes (very good, very unpredictable plot). There is a movie in the works for that one, but it is Japan only. http://wwws.warnerbros.co.jp/deathnote/

Another really good manga discussion would be Monster by Naoki Urasawa. That one is IMO one of the best manga plots ever.

I'd love to hear you four discuss how Pat Lee is one the biggest douche tools in the industry and how much of an inconsistant "artist" he is.

I'm looking forward to the pilot...i was listening to Friday's show and I'd really like to hear Moe talk about the philosophical implications of "Beast Machines: Transformers" that he mentioned during the show.....very intriguing

Damn, I think I missed that part... but I have heard people talk of the philosophical implications that were presented in the show. I, too, would like to hear his take on that.

I hope this show takes off. If there is one thng I have noticed about Larry on AGI when he, like Scot, is a great interviewer of people. I hope you get to talk to some comic book creators eventually.

The pilot went off without a hitch, and it was, in my opinion, quite topical. Good show, guys. This needs to be a regular and get more support.

Great show. I really enjoyed the discussions you guys had. Macman's call was classic.

Nathan Summers in age of apocalypse was X-Man, not mutant x or whatever that show is. Don't know what happened to him since I stopped reading the comic just before he was supposed to self destruct in the real marvel timeline.

So, will this show be live every thrusday?

P.S. Mo should forget about that invincibility stuff, his power is to relate everything to poon.

Let me start off by saying that I'm not a huge super hero comic book fan, but I do appreciate good art and a good storyline. When the Civil War series started, my wife was really interested in picking up issues of the 7-part series, and becuase of that, I decided to check it out myself. The artwork was phenominal and the storyline proposed an interesting question - what side do you root for when the good guys fight amongst themselves?

The first 4 issues were great, up into the inclusion of "recruiting" the baddies to bring the rogue good guys to justice, but I've found issues 5 and 6 to be disappointing and boring. I think that my problem with the series is that there's just too much to cram into 7 issues. I know that there is a huge Civil War crossover with a lot of the other Marvel comics, that probably helps fill in the blanks, but my problem is that I don't want to have to seek those out individually just to find out more about an event that was covered in a few frames in the 7-part series.

I think the whole concept behind the Civil War series is so epic that it shouldn't be restricted to 7 parts - to me that feels really rushed. It's like when Hollywood takes an epic novel and makes it into a 90 minute movie. There are parts of the story that are going to be left out because of either self-imposed or industry-standard time constraints, and those missing parts might actually help make the story that much better. This is how I feel with the Civil War series. I think that limiting the series to 7 parts is a disservice to the readers, but at the same time, I don't want to have to buy every other Civil War tie-in, just to get the back story on the other characters involved. Am I being unrealistic in these thoughts? And will Civil War actually end at part 7? Or will Marvel continue to roll with it?

As far as I know 7 was the last part and only the battle damage report is left for february. What you should have done is wait it out and just buy the paperback when that's out. It will have most of the stuff in one nice book.

I don't think you're crazy. 12 part story line was well within Mark Millar's abilities. I do think that it could be told well in 7 parts as well but I think something more than Marvel is letting on happened in regards to those delays in shipping. they said it was to accommodate Steve McNiven but I think there is definite quality difference in issue 5 vs. the previous installments. Time will tell :-)

Okay, then it wasn't just me noticing the lack of "oomph" that was present in at least issue 5. Doesn't it suck when things get political, even in the world of comic books? I'd be interested to know the story behind some of these significant delays. Thanks for your quick response!

7 is too short and im one of the suckers that ended up trying to get every issueof the tie ins. it seemslike most of the action happens in all the other books and all the political stuff mainly happens on Civil War.

Having only recently gone back and picking up the series, I'll echo the general sentiments. Love it or hate it, at least Crisis on Infinite Earths was a cohesive story that could be enjoyed without having to actively seek out gaps in the story provided in other titles. As I said in my post in the Comics forum, I love the idea, but the execution definitely leaves much to be desired.

I also think they really missed the boat with that opening page summarization. It hardly changed between issues! Why not just take that first page and fill it up with just a bit more text so that those of us not (currently) interested in seeking out all of the Civil War crossover titles will at least have a general notion as to all of the major plot points? I can see how that might be a logistical nightmare from an editorial standpoint, given the work habits of various creative teams...but in my mind, that could certainly be overcome by better and more stringent management.
