With some of the recent flap over the "Everybody Votes Channel" on the Wii, one thing that many people may not realize is that Nintendo's R&D Department has TONS of little useless applications that they develop as proof of concept demos that typically never see the light of day.

Stage Debut is one of those unreleased tech demos. At E3 2003, Nintendo took a picture of me with the GBA Camera which was sent to the GameCube, and then dressed based on answers to some very simple questions. Then, I was there dancing with Mario, Luigi, and Bowser. At the time, I thought it was really neat.

I have found the video I took of this and uploaded it to YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nc2jAjmUj1g) after mentioning it on my February 18th show.

I'm of the opinion that if this stuff is made internally already, I have no problem with some of these type of tech demos being optional downloads on the Wii. I know that some people believe that the people who make these little R&D things should be working on online multiplayer instead, but nobody cries that Microsoft is doing stuff with downloadable videos and that Sony is doing stuff with PS3-PSP integration...

I'm considering going through my library of E3 videos (I started taking video on VHS-C in 1998) and uploading some of the better clips to Youtube.

Xbox video marketplace has a practical use, to buy and watch TV shows/Movies. Sony's PSP/PS3 integration allows one to buy PS1 games with their PS3 and play them on their PSP, so it has a practical use (even if it is convoluted and stupid. Though the emulator itself is great :smt038)

Everybody votes? You can vote on things..... and thats it. Now, maybe it will gain purpose (maybe later one can vote on games to go on the VC and such) but for right now, all you can do is vote on random things. That's "Probably" why people are not happy with it.

I didn't realize that everything needed a "practical purpose" though. Did you know that if you plug an Xbox Live Vision camera into your 360, your dashboard background will change based on what the camera sees? What "practical puropse" does that have? And shouldn't those programmers who did that instead be working on getting camera support in Texas Hold'em?

An unrelated comment - Digg This Video (http://digg.com/videos/gaming/E3_2003_GameCube_GBA_Tech_Demo_Stage_Debut)! Because I wanna be famous and junk.

.

That would be great if they did, too bad those programmers work at Microsoft and not the company that made Texas Hold'em :-(

That dashboard effect does have a practical purpose, to make you feel like you did not waste all that money on the webcam when it probably won't be used very often. That being said, they did a poor job on it.

Edit: Just wanted to make sure I said this, I don't hate nintendo for putting the voting channel out, I could care less, if only because I don't own a Wii and probably never will :-D.
