With some of the recent flap over the "Everybody Votes Channel" on the Wii, one thing that many people may not realize is that Nintendo's R&D Department has TONS of little useless applications that they develop as proof of concept demos that typically never see the light of day.
Stage Debut is one of those unreleased tech demos. At E3 2003, Nintendo took a picture of me with the GBA Camera which was sent to the GameCube, and then dressed based on answers to some very simple questions. Then, I was there dancing with Mario, Luigi, and Bowser. At the time, I thought it was really neat.
I have found the video I took of this and uploaded it to YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nc2jAjmUj1g) after mentioning it on my February 18th show.
I'm of the opinion that if this stuff is made internally already, I have no problem with some of these type of tech demos being optional downloads on the Wii. I know that some people believe that the people who make these little R&D things should be working on online multiplayer instead, but nobody cries that Microsoft is doing stuff with downloadable videos and that Sony is doing stuff with PS3-PSP integration...
I'm considering going through my library of E3 videos (I started taking video on VHS-C in 1998) and uploading some of the better clips to Youtube.
