In a surprising move (to me anyway), BioWare announced yesterday (http://www.bioware.com/bioware_info/press_releases/2004_09_16_unreal/) that they licensed the use of Epic Games' Unreal Engine 3. Most of you probably know both of these companies and their accomplishments. BioWare is known for creating some of the best rpgs in a while, including KOTOR and the Baldur's Gate (Not Dark Alliance) series for PC. Epic is known for not only the Unreal series, but also the engine they developed and continue to develop that powers those games and powers many other games such as Splinter Cell, Deus Ex 2, and Duke Nukem Forever ( :smt069 ). So far BioWare has been using in-house developed engines for their games, so it will be interesting to see how they translate to using the new engine.
