This (http://www.majornelson.com/archive/2007/11/26/fall-dash-update-coming-next-week-dec-4th.aspx) was just posted over up at Major Nelson's blog. Apparently the Fall update comes out next Tuesday (December 4th) and will feature Friends-of-Friends. I am curious to what everyone else's thoughts are on this feature, are you going to allow it on your account or do you think it's just a mistake?

I'm going to post the quote from Major Nelson's site because its slow loading and took forever for me to finally get it to load.

It was just confirmed that the Fall Dashboard update will be released next Tuesday, December 4th. One of the new features that will be part of the release is ‘Friends of Friends.’ With this new features, you’ll be able to browse the friends list of anyone on your Xbox LIVE friends list and send anyone on your friends list a friends request. We’re also adding a ‘Friends List’ setting in the Dashboard* and on Xbox.com to allow you to control who can see your friends list.

-Everyone (only available to members 18 and older)
-Friends only (available to members 13 and older)
-Blocked (available to all members, and automatic for anyone under the age of 13)

It’s important to mention that when the dashboard update is released, the new default setting will be Everyone (assuming you are of age). For those members that not want to share their friend list, we’ve added a page on Xbox.com that is available today where you can modify this setting as you see fit. If you want to keep your friends list private, you can sign into Xbox.com now at www.xbox.com/fof and change the setting to Blocked (if you so desire.) This gives you a full week to decide which setting you would like for this new feature.

If you want to fully embrace the new feature, you don’t need to thing except wait for the update next week.

That's cool, I didn't want to because he has already made 3 edits to the details of the feature so I didn't want to quote the wrong info.

Just turned this "feature" off. I want a gaming platform, not a social network.

That and I have some devs and PR people on my list that don't want to have their gamertags known, and I don't want to deal with the drama of someone looking at my flist wondering why they're not on it when someone else they know is (considering it's full.)

Good point. You'd think he could get the facts straight before his first post seeing as he works in the same building as the people building the update.

Thats probably a good idea for me too because I have some industry people on my friends list that I play with often

"You ever have a party where two groups of your friends are meeting for the first time. And you have to prep them. 'OK, so guys, these people don't really know that I drink... And don't be thrown by my British accent.'"

It would be good if I could block certain people on my friends list that can't be seen by my other friends. This way I could let people from th AGN community that are on my friends list see when scot is on and if they would want to play with him. Like I said to Scot over live "80% of my friends list is from the Allgames.com."

Wow. With this new update, I won't have leave my room to interact with people. Now I'll have more friends on the intarwebz than I do in life. Cool, no? What other useless crap are they going to make me download next?

I wish they would stop teasing us with each little feature and give us the full list of features that will be in the update. There is only a week left until the update come on Microsoft, spill the beans already.

I don't think they released a date for the update yet.

I have had a couple of times where this would be a nice to have. Grouping your friends and having clans would be more beneficial for me.

Disabled. Now I wish you could make yourself private so that others can't see you on your own friends' lists.

This is insulting. I have to waste 5 seconds of my life disabling this myself?!

This sounds a lot like the feature in XFire that shows Friends of Friends Playing.

You should be able to block this from the fucking dashboard. Also, it should be toggled to blocked automatically, so people don't have to spend the effort blocking it.

I just hope this isn't THE marquee feature for the fall update. Seems real weak to me.
2 thumbs down for Friends of Friends :thdown:

From what I understand, you WILL be able to block this on the dashboard itself. They're just giving you the option to turn it off BEFORE the Dashboard update via the web.

Blocked. WTF was Microsoft thinking? I could see its use when playing co-op with multiple people and you don't have some of them on your friends list, but your friend does.

I think it's pretty cool because I can't be friends with AGN because of the limit but could have friends that are friends of AGN which is pretty cool. I think I have 2 friends on Live so it's not too bad for me.

I have a friend of a friend of a friend of a friend of Blackwolf. AWESOME!

I'll stop for now. To be honest I think we are bashing this thing a little bit too much. Unless this is indeed the Halmark feature of the update...
