Who's improved the most? Not by sales, but overall. Explain

Nintendo, they went from the bottom to the top in a single leap. They fired and hired the right people it seems.

overall Nintendo Wii/DS made gaming mainstream, so it gets my vote
I guess this is consoles only, otherwise I would have nominated Intel or Nvidia who put out some awesome chips this year.

Gotta be Nintendo just for their stalwart grip on the grandparents and soccer moms market! Somebody owes Dr. Phil some serious bank!

PC's always improve. :D
True, but this was the first year where even an AMD fanboy like me had to give in and throw in the towel, so that was huge for me at least.

It's a toss between Nintendo and Microsoft... on one end I'm a huge Nintendo fan and what they did with the DS and Wii i couldn't even imagine. If it was up to me to create a new console the only thing i would think of is just more power but i never would have thought a stylus or motion controls would be fun and boy was I wrong. My girlfriend plays games everyday now and I remember when we first met she considers games juvenile and now she sees what I see... who would have thunk Nintendo would have achieved that..
...also i was never an Xbox fan but Microsoft sure did learn form their mistakes. Granted they did have new mistakes like the RRoD and scratch disk errors but the controller is a lot better (except the D-pad) the online is superb... and they seem to listen to the community and try (key word is try) to cater to what their fans want. I can't say the same for Nintendo or Sony in that department. Also the whole Achievements idea was brilliant because if there's a multiplatform game... chances are I'm buying the 360 version over the PS3.

The combo of the DS and Wii are the first Nintendo products I've wanted since the original NES.

see my post on the Best game console.
it pretty much answers the topic.
Nintendo rised from 3rd to 1st.
MS stepped down from 1st to 2nd. The darn boxes wouldn't stay alive.
Sony kept punching themselves! Good thing they've stopped.

Nintendo by a wide margin. They've pretty much gambled on their own meal ticket by not following the current tech trends that MS and Sony have with disc formats, HD space, etc.. by focusing more on the player in terms of what would provide a unique experience and it actually worked. The DS continues to do well backed by a large number of first and third party titles, and the Wii continues to sell out. It's not the most powerful console on the planet, but the cheap approach it takes to keeping to the basics by providing a fun, vastly more affordable, alternative continues to print money for the former card company.
As for second place, I'd probably go with Sony over MS if only because their PS3's haven't had the kind of public reaming that the 360 (and players like me) have had to endure and are still on edge about. Another reason is that I still have my original Xbox and it works just fine, compared to the somewhat flaky experience that I've had with the 360. Even the replacement has the occasional lockup. Not to mention that the 360 in general sounds louder than the original as it tries to use the DVD as an HD platter, exhausts heat like a jet engine, and has a cottage industry of cooling solutions that you'd expect for PCs instead of a console. What happened, MS? Did you fire everyone from the original Xbox hardware dev team?

I think that even with its hardware flaws, Microsoft and the Xbox 360 have made huge waves in the gaming industry. What almost started off as a joke with Microsoft entering the console gaming ring about 7 years ago, has paid off immensely. Who would have expected the Xbox brand to outsell the PlayStation in 2007?

Microsoft, Even though it Kills Me. They went from a Small Car Sized Controller to the Best Online Experience on a Console Ever.

Unfortunately I picked the Wii before I really though about it, I should have voted for MS. Sure the Wii sold more consoles, but it's $250 compared to $279/350/$450. All Nintendo did this year was sell consoles, they didn't improve much over the Wii that we had in November. Where's my online games? Where's my online friends list? Where's my larger storage? Where's my multicolored consoles? Where's my supply of Wii's???
MS added many features that its consumers were asking for: HDMI, bigger hard drive (120gig), added a 3 year warranty to cover the RRoD and refunded people who paid for repairs, and added Divx support.
Sony did a good job of fulfilling consumer demands too. We asked for a cheaper console,
rumble, divx support, xmb customization. Sony did a good job, but I think MS was better.
Really? Nyko and Mad Catz, really? Really?
So please -1 to the Nintendo total and +1 to MS.

I don't get what this award is for? Improved hardware what do you mean. Sony went from a dreaded DREs with PS2 and PS3 being as complex as it is didn't have a major hardware failure.
SURE, Microsoft is the most improved with the RRoD [/sarcasm].
Where's the N-gage on this list? hehe.
I can't vote for Sony because they took capabilities away from the original console they bragged about. They downgraded their machine.

They are kind of throw away answers. Although I did get that Nyko 360 bundle Amazon was selling for $10. The 360 Intelligent Remote alone was worth it.

I actually use a N-Gage QD phone......though I was paid $50 and given 6 games to get it. :D

I took it as hardware improvements from 2006 to 2007.
