Can a PS3 40gig play PS3 Japan Import games?

Also will the Dual Shock 3 controller work on a US PS3? Because if so I have a local store here that just opened where they are selling import games and accessories. Please let me know thanks!

PS3 games are not region locked. You can play games from Japan on a US PS3 and vice versa. However, DVDs and most Blu-Ray movies are region locked. The Japan Dual Shock 3 does work with the US PS3. I know these things from experience.

well I will be picking up the dual shock 3 at the end of this week. I hope the white dual shock 3 is not in stock right now. But I was thinking of getting Winning Eleven for the PS3 which I heard it is a really good soccer game.

The 40Gig PS3 wont play Japanese or US PS2 games. It has no backcompat. As for the 60 and 80Gig, I'm pretty sure they are region locked.

yea only the ps3 console will play import ps3 games. but will not play any ps2 games including imports.

But the 60gig will play US PS2 games Until Sony decides to lock it up.

I'm just glad that the PS3 will play Import Games and also use Import Accessories. Thats why I decided to get the Dual Shock 3 controller being that I cannot find a confirmation on when the Dual Shock 3 controller will be released here in the States.

This is the controller I'm going to get at my local video game store. Which he just started selling Import Games and Accessories.

Ok let's get this straight. The things that makes this games work is the format the disk is in. A japanese PS2 game will NOT work on an American PS3 not matter what version it is because the DVD region format is different.

The Bluray region format is different, Japan and North american share the same region for Blurays so all Japanese PS3 games work on the PS3 in the US. For example I went to play-asia.com and ordered the Baseball spirits 4 game for the PS3 which has Japanese baseball league and it works great. I also bought the PS3 Dual shock 3 from Japan and yes it works great.

Sony can't lock up the fact that the PS3 60 gig is backwards compatible because they installed the PS2 emotion engine in the console's hardware and does not rely on software to run the old programs like the 80 gig PS3.
