I was browsing through another forum, and I come across an argument about Ninja Gaiden Sigma and Ninja Gaiden II. It was mainly about visuals and which one looked better.
Anyway, look at the mentality of those participating. This is worse than political arguments.

I'd like to say with age comes wisdom, but even I find myself in in stupid arguments. After which I think wtf?, that was totally stupid.
People didn't have the internet to have Sega Master System/Nes or Genesis/Super Nes arguments.
If they had, you would have heard the same things. It probably would have been even worse, considering the average age of gamers was younger back then.
This video game generation is no different than any other.

I say we hold Battle Royales around the world and make the trolling-youth of gamers fight for their lives.

I don't see anything wrong with it. What is the matter...
are you are all a bunch of silk pantie wearing queens. Suck it. YOU LOOSE!
FYI - I fucked your sister and mom at the same time while you dad fiddled with my nuts.
Yeah. This doesn't really lower the bar at all as far as I can tell.. It's always been like that.

There have been console competitions almost all my life (I'm 22). Even through the SEGA "Nintendon't" campaign and what not, I don't remember talking to other gamers about system wars. Even with the PS2 and PS1. We bought an N64 and a PS1... and I never once heard about system wars.
I'm talking about offline too. Just talking with other gamers.
