Rumors have been flying, but now it's for real...
...I'm actually going on the air.
MANY thanks to Scot for giving me the opportunity to take over his radio station and do an honest legit broadcast - something I've always wanted to do but never got around to doing. (My biggest regret from my college experience was not doing the campus radio station when I had the chance and opportunity.)
The Bobby Blackwolf Show is a one hour talk show about video games, focusing on the current events of the industry. I'll be interspercing some video game music in as "breaks" so I can catch my breath. If it's enjoyable enough (it will be a rocky start, I've never done this before) then I would love to continue doing this weekly. I even have ideas of things to do in a few weeks if I get to keep on doing this.
So here's a FAQ for you that are wondering what it's about.
Q. How do I listen?
A. I will be broadcasting on All Games Radio (http://www.live365.com/stations/allgamesradio), the same Live365 stream that Scot used for his broadcasts. It will be a 32k mp3PRO stream, so even dialup users can listen in. You can use WMP, RealPlayer, Winamp, iTunes, or the Radio365 player to listen in.
Q. When does it start?
A. I want to start the actual show at 8:00PM Eastern (5PM Pacific) however I will start the stream up early because I know that Live365 has about 5 minutes of commercials before connecting you to the stream. I will most likely run game music from my collection starting at 7:30.
Q. How can I participate?
A. One of two ways - I have listened to Scot Rubin for many years on the way he reads chat room comments on the air, and I will be doing the same. I will be monitoring the #allgames.com chat room on GameSurge. You can connect to GameSurge via mIRC and go to #allgames.com, or you can go to the ever popular G4techTV Chat Room (http://chat.g4techtv.com) and type /join #allgames.com
The other way is that I will be taking callers via a FREE VoIP program called Skype (http://www.skype.com/). All you need is a microphone and speakers. Skype works like any Instant Messaging service. The Skype ID for this show is bobbyblackwolfshow - add it to your Contact List and give me a ring. I may not answer right away - I will either line up a call during a music break, or I will answer them on the fly. Since this is a learning experience for ALL of us (and for any future broadcasters on AGR) we'll have to play around to see what works best. (PLEASE try to test out Skype before calling into the show with someone who isn't me.)
Q. What are the topics?
A. Here's a list of things that I may cover during this first broadcast. Like I said, I want to go weekly with the show, so of course not everything will be discussed.
1. Katamari Damacy and Innovation in video games - The greatest game ever made was released in the US for the PS2 several weeks ago to very little fanfare, however it's sold out. Do you think unique games have a place in today's market, and do you think that more American gamers will warm up to this style?
2. Peter Molyneux Apologizes for Fable - Peter has the same problem I do, yapping his gums years before he knows what's actually going on. Recently he posted a message on the Lionhead Software forums apologizing for the features that didn't make it into the retail version of Fable. Do you think he should have apologized, and do you think he's learned from his mistake?
3. Nintendo DS's Multiplayer - Rumor has it that there will be an announcement on Thursday about the DS's multiplayer system, and the rumors are abound that the Warp Pipe project is involved. Could we be hearing the first things about MarioNet and about the close-proximity wireless gaming that Nintendo wants to try to conquer? And will this affect the public's perception of the Sony PSP in any way?
Also in the news this week, Mortal Kombat: Deception and Tony Hawk Underground 2 release this week, as well as the new Leisure Suit Larry: Magna Cum Laude game. Unfortunately for fans of the oldschool LSL, Vivendi Universal decided NOT to bring in Al Lowe, the man who IS the LSL series, back in as a consultant for the game.
