If they made a real Mario game ala Mario World and Mario 3, for the Gamecube using the Paper Mario 2 engine, I would buy a Gamecube no questions asked. Why does Nintendo refuse to do this? They hate me... that is all I could come up with. :)

I beat the FUCK out of the first Paper Mario on N64. I dragged it outside and beat the fuck out of it until it bled dudes, that's what I'm talkin about. I loved the shit out of PM on N64 though, and considering this game got a "Superb" rating I'm sure I'll be pleasantly pleased with it.
The problem, though, is this. Should I get a PS2 and GTA: SA, or just get Paper Mario 2 (I already have a Gamecube) and wait to get GTA: SA when I have the cash for the afforementioned? Decisions, decisions.

It's mainly getting great reviews, but Game Informer started a little controversy about Paper Mario 2, which they only gave a 6.75.
Their explanation from the GI forums:
GI-Jeremy wrote:
Lisa and I both knew that our Paper Mario scores were going to cause controversy. Yes, we know that many people out there will love it. We also know that it is a well-made game. However, it also WILL NOT appeal to many people - I would safely say that more people will dislike it than like it. Why? Like we said in the review, it's a very kiddie game - it's target audience is clearly young gamers - I would say 10 and under. For that reason, we had to score it low. Remember, we aren't scoring games strictly on our personal opinions, we're also scoring them based on how much we think THE GAMING PUBLIC will like them. We've all played games that we personally disliked and scored them well because we've known that most people will like them, and we've also scored games low that we love, because most people won't enjoy them.
FOr example, I really like the bizarre frog golf game Ribbit King, and I gave it a 7, because it's just not for everyone. Paper Mario 2 also scored low because it's just not for everyone. If you think it's a 10 in your book, it's a ten in your book, and that doesn't change if we disagree. We're here to guide you on what games to pick up, but ultimately your personal opinion is what will make you buy a game or not.
A couple arguments have insued at the G4TTV forums about this.
Technically, can a game be for everybody?
They can give Ratchet & Clank: Up Your Arsenal a 10, yet that's a T-rated game, so it can't be for everyone.
And I'm 27 and I want to play Paper Mario 2.
Does that mean I'm fucked up?

No that just means their stupid and need to change their rating system. I mean if as they say its ultimatly up to US and what WE like then why the hell do they rate it based off what they think EVERYONE will like? That has got to be one of the most ass-backwards way to rate a game I have ever heard of. I guarantee you though that no 10 year old or younger could beat this game. I just love how everyone thinks Nintendo made games are made for "kiddie" ala people under 10, yet ater the first level or two they can get so hard that no "kiddie" could ever beat them. Hell even I have a hard time with some spots in Nintendo games and I have been playing games for nearly 15 years. I have no idea how some 5 year old is expected to beat them.

I'd LOVE to see a NEW side scrolling Mario. I don't know why they've abandoned it completely for the 3D ones. It looks like there might be one coming out for the DS, but I'd much rather have on on the Cube.

Well I heard rumors that the next Super Mario game, which will most likely be on Revolution, is going to be both 2-D and 3-D. I don't know exactly how thats going to work out if its true, but so long as Miyamoto is working on it then I'm sure it will be great. That would be kind of fun to play though. Almost like a Super Mario 64 meets Super Mario Bros or possibly Paper Mario depending on how the 2-D would be made to look. Heh I just want to play the next Super Mario game regardless of how it is. And I'm sure I'm not the only one. :D

I love Paper Mario 2. It reminds me of when I played Super Mario RPG for SNES. The game is absolutely hilarious! Battle system is fun and the boss battles are crazy!
