I'm not the biggest fan of Fils-Aime, but this time I think he might be talking out of his ass.

Not only that, but I guarrentee that since Reggie has one the respect of gamers, that they would most likely agree with him.

Luckily my opinions toward him aren't as biased as the other people who might be a fan of his.

Anywho, you can read this whole story here:http://cube.ign.com/articles/555/555497p1.html?fromint=1

But I want to discuss your thoughts on how Microsoft is supposedly releasing "Xbox 2" early.

Do you agree with Reggie or disagree?

Of course I could give out my opinion right here, but I might want to avoid..err.. trouble.

Ah what the hell, here is what I believe:

I think in 2005 or 2006, whenever M$ is ready to unleash the Xbox 2, I think that it will be a perfect time for the market.

Most people will be ready to move on with their consoles, and this year most of the best games are being released...so after some time we, well I know I am, are probably willing to move onto the next best thing.

PS2 unveiled at a perfect time, all the games on that generation before were already at its climax...and it was time to unveil something new.

The general consensus agreed, and look at how devasting the PS2 sold.

Will Xbox 2 do the same? I don't know, but I will say if the other two giant companies don't react soon enough and keep waiting on what the next company will do...in this case Nintendo's wait on PS3...might give Xbox 2 the edge.

Just like the PS2 had the edge, and in fact had a year ahead then both Xbox and Gamecube, which put both those consoles at a disadvantage. Alot have games released during that 1 year timespan, and it gave the consumers to go ahead and purchase the console early on...instead of waiting.

I believe this is Microsoft's approach to Xbox 2. They know consumers are anxious to see the next best thing, and if the consumers are willing, Microsoft will have most likely a one year lead over its competitors and may be the PS2 of its generation.

well, personally, i think Nintendo just needs to release a platform that has something, or A LOT of something for everybody! Most people who played N64 are teenagers now, and they dont want to play the same games and the same characters! Thats why many people moved along to PS2 and Xbox. I personally dont think the Revolution will be any good. They can have a revolution right now by getting some nice games we see on the xbox and ps2.

i guarantee someone is gonna give me bad rep because they think that the Gamecube is the greatest thing out there, and to go fuck myself. Everybody has their own opinion.

But when your opinion is kind of stupid what do expect? I'm just going to ask you this: Why is it up to Nintendo(and what seems like only Nntendo) to make games for literally everyone? They already make more games then MS and Sony COMBINED so why are they now expected to make MORE? If you want more "mature" games then bug the 3rd parties to do it. Hell Rockstar doesn't make anything BUT "mature" games and I don't see anyone bitching at them to make games for "everyone".

You're forgetting one thing, Dualist.

Dreamcast was the first "Next-Gen Console" in this generation. It was unveiled before the general public was ready, which is when the PS2 launched.

Xbox 2 will be the next Dreamcast. It will launch and the public won't be ready.

And DarthEvilDude, I don't like most of Rockstar's games. So please don't speak for me and say that everyone likes Rockstar's games.

well in my experience, everybody usually means MOST people, so sorry Captain Technical.

Calling his comment a 'slam' is overstating it a little. But I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Here we go again. First, Rockstar is a third party developer. THEY CAN DO WHAT THEY WANT. No one expects Nintendo to make every game. But as a console developer, they have to make a broad range of games that apeals to everyone, not just kids. They have not done that, they have made games for mostly pre-teens. Sony and MS make games that apeal to a broader audience. Me and you have been down this road before. It turns into a huge fight and I dont want that.

Lord Moon said it best in this (http://www.allgames.com/showpost.php?p=23416&postcount=56) post. The innovators are not holding up their end of the deal for those of us that were raised on the NES. We expect more from Nintendo than Sony or MS, because they set the bar. We are not asking for the world, just evolution. Evolve with the people that made you the biggest video game company in the world. I feel that it is owed to us. Man, you have your opnion and I have mine. Neither of us is going to change the others mind. But, just try to understand where me and those who think like me are coming from.

I'm trying to figure out how M rated games have a broader audience than an all-ages title. That's like saying that R rated films have a broader audience than PG-13, which is patently untrue.

As for the Xbox in 2005 -- I doubt it. Microsoft isn't in the position where they can release a product without a high-profile launch title (read: Halo). They will absolutely have to wait for Halo 3 to be ready for release before putting their new console out.

I think one of the hurdles Nintendo had to overcome was a weak launch. I'm sure Luigi's Mansion is a great game with all sorts of fun, but I can tell you that it didn't interest me one bit, solely because it wasn't a Mario adventure. When your product is irrevokably tied to one property like Nintendo is Mario, you have to have that product released at the same time!

I gon't really like that Fils-Aime admitted that their schedule is based on Sony's. Depending on how far Sony is in development and deployment of the PS3, they could use that as their edge.

As an aside: Does IGN have an editor anymore? Jesus Christ, that interview citation was full of grammar errors, missing words, etc. IGN really has gone to shit.

I would love to individually respond to everyone of your comments (Sentence by sentence) but I don't have that kind of time.

Blackwolf, oh yeah forgot about the Dreamcast...heh funny how I forgot it becuase it ended up as something to be forgetable.

Anyway, I disagree with your logic on Xbox 2 being the next Dreamcast, how do you know for sure?

I whole heartedly agree Jon, in fact that is the reason why I skipped my Gamecube purchase and went with Xbox first.

I remember back in 2001 I hated the Xbox, becuase I was so jealous that why did it always have the best graphics (and the best screens in advertisements) and I disliked it at all. But after awhile I found Halo, and the rest is history.

I mean look Luigi is cool and all, but Mario is way more iconic and most people would get a game with Mario on their.

That's a fact, just look at sales of Luigi's Mansion compared to Super Mario Sunshine.

Someone gave me negative rep for this:

"Uhhh I would think of the Gamecube as more forgetable than Dreamcast."

LMFAO!

I thought it was pretty funny.

I know I won't be buying an Xbox 2 at launch, but maybe a year later.

BTW, Most PS2 launch games sucked.

I've owned 4 PS2's in 4 years. 1st one I got was on the launch date, Broke with a DRE. 2 others were stolen, and I still have this one. That's how dedicated I am. I will stick with Sony's console, but I may pick up a Xbox 2...if some new stuff interests me.. *cough*Modding or Halo 3*cough*

As Blackwolf said Dreamcast WAS the 1st Next-Gen console and didn't have a big fanbase. But I don't think Xbox 2 will flop if it's released earlier than the other consoles. There are enough mainstreamers to keep it from flopping by buying it. Most kids in my school own an Xbox just because their Parents bought it for them. They aren't "Real Gamers", just play games that are "Good" (i.e. Halo). I don't think a lot of people would be playing games such as KOTOR 2 or Fable because they require more in depth style of play.

But if Xbox 2 has a good line-up, Gamers and Mainstreamers will buy the Xbox 2. I know I won't until at least a year after it's release.

To think you disagreed with me, when I said PS2 is made like a P.O.S.

Yeah... I got one on launch date, it stopped reading discs one year later. As I said, DRE happens from leaving discs in the tray. It's happened to my CD player and also my Cousin's XBOX too.

1 got stolen from me, and My brothers also got stolen. I have had this one for a year and it works great.

PS2's aren't made shitty, it's the people that break them.

I take wonderful care of all of my consoles and my PS2 still has a disc error problem every now and then. So don't say I am responsible for it having problems.

Taking this thread further off track.....

I've had my PS2 for 3 years now. No problems, no DRE's, nothing. But then again the only system I own right now that has problems is my original GameBoy. It has some dead screen cells & I have to put some folded paper under the battery cover to hold the batteries tight. But then again I took it with me to Desert Storm.

Wow someones really old. Sorry I just had to do that.

Anyway since when is leaving games in the system bad for the system? I ALWAYS do that and I never get problems with either. I leave my N64, DC, GC, and PS2 games in their systems and they are fine. The only problems I have had is my N64 sometimes has troble starting up, like it will come up just a black screen but I can usually get it to work. Then again I have had it for nearly 8 years and its really dusty. Then only my GC has had some slight problems where the game freezes and theres this weird annoying buzzing type sound which I don't understand why that happens. Either way everything works fine for me.
