I got a chance to watch the Dragonball Evolution movie. I can't lie. I really enjoyed it. With the exception of one glaring plot hole and the fact that almost everything was different it was still fun to watch. Truth be told i liked some of the changes. Particularly Yamcha. So what we have is that 2000 years ago the evil Piccolo was imprisoned and now he's not. They don't say how he escaped and I don't ask. He starts looking for the Dragonballs so he take over the Earth and in the process he fatally injures Gohan, with some really cool force powers. Gohan with his dying breath tells Goku to find Master Roshi and the Dragonballs and stop Piccolo's reign of terror. While this isn't the movie fans wanted to see it's still good. The fighting is good, for PG, and the fight effects look good. The actors do a good job with the characters, especially Chow Yung Fat as Master Roshi. Most importantly the climax is noticeable and well positioned. While I do agree that licensing a property and then changing everything about the source material is the pinnacle of marketing laziness, I will say that this is one fun to watch regardless. Plus if Akira Toriyama helped make the movie then that makes it okay. At least that what people tell me about Crichton when I complain about Jurassic Park.
