I'm getting an error on startup with this message

================================================== ============================
World of WarCraft: Assertions Enabled Build (build 3980)

Exe: C:\Program Files\World of Warcraft\WoW.exe
Time: Nov 6, 2004 7:26:27.218 PM
User: Nick L
Computer: NICK
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This application has encountered a critical error:

ERROR #0 (0x85100000)
Program: C:\Program Files\World of Warcraft\WoW.exe
File: C:\build\buildWoW\WoW\Source\WowServices\Linux\Wow ConnectionNetSelect.cpp
Line: 132
Expr: 0

WoWBuild: 3980

I think i'm not "connecting" to something... My internet is obviously working though... Also, i'm not sure if this is relevant, but McAfee just said it's been unable to check for updates for 7 days... Any help is appreciated because I spent the 8 bucks, it took me 3 hours to download, extract, install, and now this!!

I'd honestly think the WOW Beta boards would be much, much more informative with a tech error like this.

You'd think, but everyone with this error has had no response yet, and the Blizzz people are so busy right now I doubt they care. I was just hoping someone here had a little programming or troubleshooting know-how..

Right now I'm uninstalling-reinstalling and hopefully that works.

It means there's a bug in the code, at line 132 in ConnectionNetSelect.cpp. There's nothing any of us can do about it.

Alrighty then. I just deleted everything, and now I'm redownloading. Which sucks because it takes like 3+ hours, not counting extracting and installing. :-?

I am pretty sure you can just make an account on the WOW website, download the beta, and play.

Fileplanet subscribers got in one week early, for the final Stress Test. Tomorrow everyone is able to get it for the Open Beta..

Btw I finally got mine working... level 8 Tauren Warrior!
