Baten Kaitos Impressions..

Im loving this game right now. The battle system is slick. THe Voice Acting is meh at times.....

Yeah, I'm getting it for christmas. So it is good? I'm really leery about those card battle games. They seem superbly lame. Yeah, I like the smiley faces, if anyone hasn't noticed. :smt066

The Battle system is the best part of the game. Its turnbased, but it has timing based aspects. Here is the post I made @ G4 when I got it

Yesterday was payday, I had a bunch of extra $$$ so I went to EBgames. I figured, "Hell got some extra paper, might as well get some new games and flirt with the h0t girl who works there." So I picked up Baten Kaitos for $50, Metroid Prime for $10.99 *I hadn't played it yet.* and a Mad Catz AV jack adapter, so this instead of un hooking my XboX, Gamecube and DVD player...all I do is flick a switch! *best invention evar*

Anyhow im about 4 hours into Baten Kaitos. I was a bit skeptic @ first b/c I did not like the character design, but it has grown on me. The voice acting awful, the graphics superb. But im amazed how they executed the card battle system into real time battles. It takes a bit of strategy, relexes and luck of the draw. It is so much more entralling than a typical hack and slash and definitely not a snooze fest like turn based garbage.

Good job Namco. I think I found a co. I can believe in besides, nintendo and bungie.

I have low expectations. Anyone remember lost Kingdom? It sucked and I heard beaten kaitos has the same gameplay. The character design is the ugliest thing ever. If I was the main character I would kick my own ass for dressing that way

What? No way...i just picked it up and as i watched the opening scene...its totally awsome. I mean, really pretty....lol, and yea i think i can get used to this card thing. Didn't really play any game that involved cards, but if u can get used to FF then yea, this should be ok. The 2 discs also surprised me...is this game really that long? :smt055 Lol, not that i mind...

The only problems I have had so far is that the voice-acting sounds almost like its hollow or something.... kind of wierd. The other thing is that, at some times, the camera views are so far up that you are tiny on the map, making it more difficult to tell what to do or where to go.

Other then that, I love it. The card-battle system was pulled off very nicely, IMO. Hopefully it only gets better.

I love this game. I'll go as far as saying it's my GOTY, and I just got to Anunuae (sp?) I'm almost at 7 hours of gametime.

oh yeah it gets better......the spells are more intense and so are the finishing moves....

As you class up you can have a bigger deck....but more importantly a bigger hand during battle. It so awesome stringing together 5 attacks and then hittin them with that killer finishing move card!

I love combos, I remember one time in particular I did a 5 card combo that resulted in 400+ HP loss (all thanks to the HellFire card).

But I love the "Concerto" card. I think it kicks ass.

I did pick up a strategy guide the other day though.... not because its that hard but because I want to take care of all these side-quests and mini-things.

That's exactly where I am. I'm stuck though...I have two of the books, and I have the key to one place, but one of the red bookshelves is completely blocking the way to the door (the one closest to the red flower), and it won't move. Am I supposed to do something specific?

Yea, it turned out to be a wicked game. I mean, i can't beleive i'm actually enjoying it. I thought FF ruined the turn-based gameplay for me forever, but this is actually fun. Hmm, didn't know there was a player's guide out. Is it from nintendo? and...i'm maybe 10 hrs into it so still have far to go. What's the best way to get the most experience points possible? and...y does the girl always go 1st? and she attacked much more too...any reason?
