Do you guys want to see forum titles based on post counts like G4TechTV? If so, I'm open to suggestions as to what they should be.

if you are going to have a custom based title based on post count, I think that would be a bad idea, just because thats the reason so many spam over on the G4techtv boards.
Otherwise, i'm fine with it.
I have very specific ideas on this. I want each post to be able to be rated. The higher the rating points a user collects, the benefits kick in, title degrees and giveaways. I want the positive members to reap benefits from positive interation. So i guess the question is, how long would it take to program a rating system for each post, that keeps track of that rating and can trigger events at various milestones.

Bad Idea, Because what happens if someone who does not like someone comes on and starts to rate all there threads bad? I don't know, maybe i'm just a cynic or pessimistic.

yeah but 1 vote shouldn't throw off someones rating too much.

Keep in mind that the user shouldn't be able to rate their own post.

Sounds good to me, in all actuality it doesn't really matter if we have "titles" it's just fun to be back on the boards again w/ agn.

I think that if one person votes bad on people they just don't like it's only one vote, and if the person is really good, it wont matter because of the good votes.
I want the best contributors to get cool stuff.

I like your idea, agn. That would go a long way in keeping the spam down.

I like the idea of a rating system for each post. Keep the average rating under each user name... I can see it.

How would this work though? Like would you automatically be rated or would people have to vote on your rating? I don't know if that will work out that great since I have been to other forums that have that same type of option and not many people vote. Like some people may have hundreds of posts but they only have a few that were ever rated. So basically you could have 10,000 posts but people only remembered to vote for 5 of them. It does sound pretty cool though. Heh now about this free stuff... :-D

Posts get rated by users from 0 to 5 stars. The more posts you get with higher star ratings up your "reputation".
Moderators and Admins (as well as those with high reputations) have more of a sway on how much your reputation goes up based on a post rating so a single normal user could be "vetoed" by a mod or admin.
In the brave new world (vBulletin) user titles will be based on reputation, not post count :)
This will all go into effect once the vBulletin guys get back to us.

Heh no offense or anything but you do know most of the people here are from G4 right? Believe me I like this idea and I hope it works out, but so long as there are message boards then people will always be rated based on their post count. Its said but unfortuantly true. I do hope you can somehow manage to stop that here at least and do this star reputation thing instead, so long as people actually vote anyway.
On a related note though we don't have any mods. At least none that I know if. So far its only you and Scot as Site Admins so you two would be the only ones rating us. Unless your planning to make some mods after vBulletin gets back to you? Another unfortuanate thing is that there doesn't seem to be many people posting here. Mostly just around 15 or so daily posters and then some other drive by ones. Depending on what type of time your trying to turn this into, maybe you should advertise it somewhere or something? I'll put a link to it in my sig at G4 if you want? I'm sure that will get some new people at least.

Well, there will not be any post counts displayed here, ever. I'm going to remove them all from the vbulletin code.
Yes, there will be moderators eventually...
As for users, just wait, our userbase will grow soonly.

Well are we still going to have our post count personally or something? Like I used to post at, am still registered actually just never post, at a place where they took off the post count from being displayed but you could still see it if you went into the person's profile. Will that still be avaiable or like are we never going to even be able to know our own post count forever? I'd like to know mine just for fun. Heh you know to see how much of my life I have spent here when I should probably be in bed. :P
I get the feeling you have something up your sleeve though about a growing userbase here. So thats good since conversations can get boring with the same dozen people day in and day out. As for mods all I ask is that you please be careful in picking them. There should be some type of requirment that mods have to show up a certain amount of times per week unless on vacation, because the ones over at G4 never seem to ever show up. And then when they do they don't seem to do much. I just hate it when theres spam at the boards and no one is around to take care of it. But based on what I have read so far I'm sure you guys will do things a bit differently then over there and will make good choices. :smt023

i personally like post count. not that it's my goal in life to have the most posts, but when i first enter a new board i look at the combination of the date they joined/post count. if they have a decent post count, and have been there for a while i know who to turn to if i have a question. also, let's me know who to stay away from/not take seriously if i see a guy with a couple thousand posts in like a month's time.

But we still haven't really established a rankings system. What's this "distinguished road" stuff all about?

That is your user reputation.
As you get threads ranked, that score will go up. Also, Administrators can up your rep with a single click :)

What is a forum titles based on post counts system? Basically, it means that once you reach a certain number in your post count, the title automatically changes.
Its on the G4TTV Forums. And mostly any other piece of forum software, too.
If you vote "I disapprove" it goes down :P See other topic! :smt019

I'm just wondering, how have so many people here gotten customs so quickly?
As far as I know the first 200 members could pick their custom.

The only issue I have with voting reputation (and I'm being serious now), is that it relies on people to actively vote. I go to so many forums where there is a vote for rating topics, users, etc. And most of the time, no one votes.
I think this helps when there are mods that hold more sway, but generally speaking, how many people do you think will be voting?

I have been giving reputation but so far the only person other person I have seen give reputation was blackwolf, I saw it in the Who's Online thing. Turns out he was giving it to me. heh. But yeah I dont think most of the people here give it... they should.
