There is a site saying the DS is not WiFi certified, so someone on anouther forum contacted Ninteno about it, and this is what they have to say:
"Hi,
The Nintendo DS uses the 802.11b wireless communication protocol. Any 802.11b capable router will do. Of course, to use this feature, the games will need to be programmed to use this protocol (none currently do). At this point, we don't know if future Internet communications will be done through subscription based services or through free access sites.
Keep an eye on Nintendo Power magazine and our web sites at www.nintendo.com and www.nintendods.com for updates.

The DS does use 802.11, but it does not use an IP Stack for it's Ni-Fi games. It uses a proprietary signal.
However, the IP Stack is done in the software, not the hardware, so it's very possible that future games will utilize an IP Stack and talk with your router and get DHCP and all that stuff. People can tunnel the Ni-Fi games because they have been able to decipher what the DS uses instead of the traditional IP Stack.
And for the record, PSP does use an IP Stack even for it's games that aren't online enabled. It'll be tunnelled before the DS, but the DS will be tunnelled most likely before the end of the year by Xlink Kai. One of the estimates I heard was in 10-12 days from yesterday.

PSP was already tunneled by TeamXlink and is already out for people in Japan to test. I knew this about the DS, but im just providing more information to proove that DS will go online... for the doubters. I also read somewhere that Nintendo will have the stuff needed to developers to easily get games TCP/IP support in the next devkit revision, but I don't know how ligitimate that claim is at the time.

There are already developers creating an IP Stack for true online play for the DS. It just wasn't tested out enough in time for the launch titles.
There was never any doubt, to me, that the DS would go online eventually, because Nintendo has said so in just about every single press release about the system. Even at E3 they were touting the 802.11 capabilities to play online.

Screw Animal Crossing DS I want to know if theres going to be an Animal Crossing 2 for the GC! Or just another console AC game at all. Heh I haven't actually played that game in a long time,(I have almost all the items and no SP so I can't get to my island to get the rest) but it was a really really fun game. I want there to be a second one thats huge compared to the current one. Like over 3 times bigger, which I hope they do. It would be nice to have a huge town to live in with a mall or something nice like that. It would also be cool if we could look up to the sky in this one, and if they make alot more fruit options. Even better is if we could remodel the house to make the ways we want like a different stairs, or window types of a real fireplace or not. The cool stuff like that.
