I was at my local EB games this evening. While I was there I thought I'd try out one of the two DS's they had on display. Unfortunately both were already broken. Not giving me much confidence there Nintendo.

It's because people go in there to scratch the screens. And also, they are bound to anyways when you put them in a store near xmas where parents who don't know what to do go, and then press harder that fuck on the screen, or use their nails.

It's called fuckheads lack common sense.
You could say the same about a TV, and you would have never have known that some idiot stuck a huge magnet on it the other day. Shit happens when shitty people are around.

I find it kind of silly to base the durability of a handheld system purely on how it's treated in a busy video game store by a bunch of kids who don't own it so they mess it up since they don't have to be responsible with it.

Why do you think all of the game controllers are broken in some way on the demo kiosks? It's because since it's not the property of the kids, they don't treat it as such.

It's like when people poke holes in woofers in the store. Assholes.

Two DS' that could have been in consumer hands broken by a bunch of idiots at a store.

'Tis a shame...

Probably because they were overly abused.

The ones at my EB work, but the screen is scratched to hell. Apparently some kid tried using his pocket knife as a stylus.

My brother has had his DS for about 3 weeks, and it works and looks fine.
As long as you aren't some freak who tortures handheld game systems for self gain or whatever, the DS should be fine for you.

Was he trying to destroy it, or was he just not that bright?

Maybe both?

Heh my cousin was really protective of his. Which is kind of funny because if you knew him you would think its just hilarious because of all the stupid things he does/says sometimes. And then he doesn't seem to care about his systems as much. So he didn't let me play it much which kind of sucked, but I was playing Super Mario DS and I didn't think it was a real great expeirence because of there being no analog stick. Thats my favorite game of all time(the 64 version obviously) so to not be able to have as great control as I had on the 64 is kind of a let down. The D-pad just seemed way to small to me, even though its bigger then the SP D-pad I believe and I want to get one of those.

Sounds a like a bit of column a, a bit of column b on the knife thing.

At our store, we keep ours pretty much right next to the counter, so if anyone thinks of messing with them too severely, an employee can reprimand/beat/slash them.

As it stands, mine's taken one iffy dive off a counter already, onto a tile floor, and it's still fine. I had two dead pixels early on, but there's not many incidents where they're noticable, and no others have died, so I'm happy.

My DS is working just fine. I've heard the PSP is not so good with durability. I haven't heard shit about Gizmondo. I'm getting Gizmondo because Johnny Whatever (http://www.allgames.com/showthread.php?t=477) is probably coming to Gizmondo because the game's developer Warthog Texas(now known as Gizmondo Texas) was acquired by Gizmondo. Interestingly enough, not any of Warthog's titles have been announced for Gizmondo. Speaking of Gizmondo, my sig a screen cap from the Gizmondo game Colors.
