View Full Version : So you can see who left rep now?

When did this happen. I haven't been keeping close enough of an eye on the boards lately but I just noticed I can see who left me neg and positive feedback.

It happened a week ago I think. I think its for the better of the whole community. I think it will stop a lot of the rep abuse.

haha, subtle, I think I've done the same thing once or twice.
Now you and I can both leave simple "Boo Yahs" and still feel good about ourselves knowing-- THEY know.

Funny shit dude. I should go "try" that game out, but HL2 Silver is eating up my HD space.
The only problem is leaving neg reps could almost be pointless since the other person will just retaliate 99.9% of the time.

Yes. Scot didn't want people to feel "scared" to leave scathing commentary on the other posts, which is what was happening when I was "cracking down" on reputation comments. So, we decided to make them no longer anonymous.
The entire point of the rep system was to make people accountable for what they said, but the flaw was that people who left rep were still not accountable...Now they are. If this means that less people give negative rep, then that's fine.
We also subtly introduced a higher number of users required to spread rep around to before giving rep to the same person from 5 to 10. We'll be scaling that number up to go with the amount of members as we go along.

Someone literally copied and pasted the negative rep I gave them and then a day or so later it mysteriously disappeared from my user panel and I don't mean that it was pushed off by more rep.
I'd hope that means that sort of thing is being taken care of and not that my user panel is haunted, as I don't really have the energy for an e-exorcism.

The same thing that holds people accountable for unwarranted rep to begin with, which in the cases of 'some people' doesn't hold them back at all.

Knowing who leaves the rep actually seems like an awesome idea. Recieving random negative rep over nothing bad with the explination for the negative rep being "lol" really sucks, although it's hilarious on occassion.

Your user panel is haunted. I'm not touching that stuff.
I AM touching the rep-spam that one person has done. (ie giving blank reps to a bunch of people, mostly negative, just so you can give more negative rep to some of the same people.) In that case, I reversed all rep in the spamfest - both positive and negative. If this happened to you, you'd know it because I actually edit the rep comment and the score (so it's a grey gem) - I don't actually delete entries from the rep system.
People who rep-spam no longer get to give rep anymore. We gave everyone a clean slate when we made the comments no longer anonymous (we had about 6 or 7 people banned from giving rep due to their constant use of "fag" and other stuff) but now we're already building that list up with other people.

Yeah, someone has been doing that. Anyway, if it was something you saw before you put someone on ignore, then it would have seemed like it disappeared. It still affected the rep points. If you take someone off ignore, it will probably then be visible.

Ya, but that would make it the perfect game, which I doubt will ever be done.
As for reps, I think the negative rep giving has gone down considerably, except if the post obviously entitles the rep. The postitive rep has also been going up, which is good to see over all of the arguing that has been going on.

With people knowing that they will be seen as who gave the rep, less - and more positive will be the norm. People will be less honest with the rep, everyone's points will go up in general, but in relation to each other it will probably still be the same.
I think I preferred it when people were more honest about it, but I think it will be this way for a while. So if you are going to negative rep, do it being prepared for the few (insert term here) members who will retaliate against you for it.

You were one of the people abusing it though so you are only complaining about yourself. The two times you gave me rep, both negative, you left it blank.
Blackwolf, if you wiped the slate clean on people would couldn't give rep before then how come the whole rep wasn't wiped clean as well. Like I'm just wondering if that will ever be done. Setting everyone to zero and then let it go from there. That way everyone could get a fresh start from rep they shouldn't have got, good or bad. Heh now that we can see who it is I somehow seem to get alot less bad rep.

Worst. And whats so bad about it? Worried that you won't get back up to 6 bars again because your posts aren't that great? Besides it wasn't so much an idea as a question. I was just curious as to whether or not that would ever happen since Blackwolf said the slate was wiped clean when it was made so we could see who left us what rep.

Exactly. ;) Do you really want to start at 0 and then you have reds?Honestly I don't really care. I haven't used the thing myself since September or so anyway. Plus I think I would be in the positives because of you. And then Mush giving me a positive one which confused me considering what he said and that he gave me a bad one a week ago. Oh well. Heh I guess I redeemed myself in his eyes.
Anyway it might be a good idea though. I have always argued(big suprise huh?) for their to be guidelines for the rep system. I'm not claiming to be the greatest poster ever, but I mean when some people have like 6, 7, or even 8 bars I just start to wonder why. I personally just don't feel half the rep given is ever deserved. I just don't think positive rep should be given to people for posting nude pics or because poster A likes the same game or food as poster B. But I suppose I'm the only one that thinks that. Ah well.
BTW, you still spelt it wrong. Worst, not worse.

After thinking about this more, im not so sure i like this idea. i mean people are afraid to give negative rep on posts just because of retaliation. so totally shit posters still have 2 or 3 bars(Hell, look at me!)
Maybe your name should only show if you have:
A. less than 3 or 4 bars(positive of course)
B. have been known to abuse the system.
Ahh well, just my thoughts after looking at whats happening and thinking about it a little more.

If you really don't care then why put the idea into movement at all?
I believe I have earned my rep quite legitimately. I really don't want to start over, even though I could probably get back up to my spot eventually. Your idea for how people give rep is very strict. Being someone who enjoys my rights, I would never agree to do something like that. That would make the mods seem like ruthless overlords whenever you gave rep for the wrong reason, and you thought it was okay.

I wasn't talking about anyone in specific. But its obvious some people have a bias when it comes to giving out rep, whether it be good or bad. I bet ifyou could check all the rep you ever had you would find a few names over and over again giving you good rep. I'm not saying it was done on purpose to boost your rep, but it just so happens thats some of the same people gave you(not really you specifically just generally) alot of good rep. Like I said its my opinion, I just don't think anyone here has written any type of award winning posts. Then again I suppose its because of the points. Heh I know Matrix gives like 40 something points every time he gives positive rep.

Sorry I didn't mean avatar I meant custom. Heh I just now relized this. I had the XBox custom almost 2 weeks ago and now I notice you with the GC one. I don't care but I was just pointing it out. I suppose its good since we both got new things though. Because of your post you just reminded me though that I have to watch the 4th disc for my Star Wars DVDs, the extra footage, and then now I can finally play the Battlefront demo since I have an XBox finally. Although I STILL don't understand why they made it an XBox demo when there are more PS2s sold in the U.S. alone then there are X-Boxs worldwide. Oh well, at least I can try it out now.

My apologies, I didn't mean "wipe the slate clean" in terms of rep points received, I meant "wipe the slate clean" in terms of who is in trouble for previously abusing the rep system. In other words, I gave everyone a second chance to play nice with the system.
We will not be resetting rep counts at all.
Emptythought, we don't have the ability to code in something like that. Having it 100% shown or not is a simple Yes/No box in the options for each usergroup in vBulletin, doing what you ask would require hacking the actual forum software to do it. (Much like the whole blank rep comment thing.) People are still leaving negative rep anyway, they're just not leaving insulting negative rep quite so much.
The Matrix, you only take away half of what you give for positive rep...And you don't give 56.
