View Full Version : How about them Cardinals?
Well, they lost Renteria, Kline, Woody and Haren but look at their lineup and rotation for next year. Looks like a champion to me.
Lineup:
1) David Eckstein SS
2) Larry Walker RF
3) Albert Pujols
4) Scott Rolen 3B
5) Jim Edmonds CF
6) Reggie Sanders LF
7) Mark Grudzielanick 2B
8 ) Yadier Molina C
Rotation:
1) Mark Mulder
2) Chris Carpenter
3) Matt Morris
4) Jeff Suppan
5) Jason Marquis/Rick Ankiel

That rotation is just one big question mark, their lineup, while good, has been downgraded, they'll be worse defensively, and their pen is worse, too.
They won't be as good as last year, and that team couldn't even compete with the Sox.

Their rotation is a question mark? :smt043
Mark Mulder and Chris Carpenter form one of the best one-two punches in the MLB. It's pretty good when Matt Morris is your third starter too.
You have to remember, they didn't have Mulder or Carpenter last year against the Sox. And neither Edmonds nor Rolen had hits. Not because of the Sox pitching, but because they picked the wrong time to slump and they had no WS experience.

Yes because we all know the Red Sox have TONS of World Series experience. I mean with them having gone to, and won, the WS every year for as long as baseball has been around. You hit the nail on the head with that one.

I didn't say that was the only problem with the Cardinals. You kind of forgot to hit on the fact that they didn't have their two current best pitchers at the time. Oh, and that two of their best hitters decided to choose that time to slump. Boston also had home field advantage thanks to Roger Clemens.

And yet Boston's two best pitchers weren't in real great shape either. Schilling was injured. I mean he was literally in pain and pitched anyway. He started bleeding during one game. And then lets face it Pedro is kind of slowing down. Hes not as good as he used to be, so its not like he did as well as he could have. Besides, the Sox swept the Cardinals so your home field advantage excuse is just that, an excuse. They played two games in Boston and then two games in St. Louis. The Sox won all four, they are simply the better team, whether you like it or not.

Mulder is coming of the worst year of his career since his rookie season. His walks were way up, strikeouts down, and his ERA was more than a run higher than his previous three-year average. And Carpenter wasn't pitching against the Sox why? Because he was injured. He's an injury-prone guy. He didn't even pitch in 2003. Not to mention the fact that he was coming off what was far and away his career year. I'm sure you expect him to repeat his numbers, but it's not likely. There's probably at least dozen one-two combos I'd take over Mulder-Carpenter.
And neither Edmonds nor Rolen had hits. Not because of the Sox pitching, but because they picked the wrong time to slump and they had no WS experience.
That's an hilarious excuse. How much World Series experience did the Sox hitters have? I believe it was a combined none. I'm sure if the Sox had sucked as bad, you would have credited that marvelous St. Louis pitching.

They are not the better team. And if Boston gets two up because of home field advantage, they have the momentum.

How are they not the better team? THEY WON. Would you St. Louis people stop being so damn jelous for once? It really is getting annoying since you people said the exact same shit when the Pats beat the Rams to win their first Super Bowl. Face it the Boston team won and for those respective years were the better team. Its gone beyond jelousy to just being pathetic if you ask me. GET OVER IT. Its just a sports game.
If the Cards won any of the games in the series the bitterness may be warranted, but when you're swept you just have to admit they were the better team as there was little doubt to be had. A 2-0 series lead is not insurmountable at all. You typically hope to steal a game at the other team's home, otherwise you expect to lose on the road, so any momentum is overrated. They had a chance to respond and didn't.

Not to mention are we completly forgetting, or in this case just outright ignoring, the seriees against the Yankees? Game 1 lost AT HOME, Game 2 lost AT HOME(so much for home field advantage huh?) Game 3 lost at the Bronx. Then being down 0-3, and having been crushed in those three games as well I might add, the Sox come back to take the next four from the Yankees. Somrthing NO team has EVER done in the entire history of baseball. Being so jelous that you just ignore facts is really really sad you know.

That rotation is pretty inconsistant... Rick Ankiel is actually being considered as a starter? Good God, that guy throws more walks than Kerry Wood and Brandon Webb combined on a bad day. He'd probably throw to the center fielder before he hits home plate.

No, he's not. But I put him there. He has 30 strikeouts and 3 walks in 28 innings of Winter League. He's back.. trust me.
The team who was swept in the World Series is the better team.
Gotcha.

Remind me never to trust you. Ankiel's given up on pitching, and is going to try and play the outfield.
