View Full Version : This guy says wrestling is fake. But he can't back it up for shit.
Seriously. He says it doesn't hurt and it's fake. I told him about how one time Mankind was thrown off of a twenty foot Cell onto the ground, THROUGH SOME PLYWOOD (tabel)!!!!!! He said they're specially trained to make it not hurt.
And told about how the mat is hard canvas, people get slammed and stuff every match. And that super-moonsault Kurt Angle did once, AND MISSED. He said
"That stuff is soft-ass shit".
:?
I forgot to argue on Frog Splashes and stuff. And all of the injuries.
there is no santa clause OR easter bunny either.
sorry dude
I'm not saying wrestling is 100% real. I know some of it is fake. But seriously, someone is getting hurt out there. These are real athletes.

If steroid use wasn't tolerated (and probably even condoned), I'd agree with you 100%. But since it is, I really can't do that.

Um, Wrestling's fake. I mean, unless you mean stomping on the ground actually is punching.

Wrestling is choreographed, the outcomes are predetermined, but it's not exactly fake. Sure, they do tricks to make it hurt less (such as the stomping of the foot while punching), but there's a lot of real stuff going on there, especially with the arial manuvers.
That mat doesn't give all that much. It's not a soft mattress that they're bouncing around on, and it WILL fuck up your back.
And Green, steroid use hasn't been tolerated since the early 90's when there was the whole trial thing going on between the US Government and the WWF.

I saw an interview with Vince McMahon a while back where he stated that he didn't feel that steroid use was a problem in professional wrestling because it's not really cheating like it is in other sports, since the outcomes are predetermined.
That didn't exactly instill me with confidence.

While Wrestling is fake in alot of aspects, there are some things that they just cant fake. Jumping from the top rope to the ring does hurt alot of times because of the hardness of the mat and how the ring is just wood and steel. If you get a chance to be in a ring just try falling backwards like you would do on a bed or something, you will lose your breath and fell pain on your back. Now the fact that they do this all the time and still have the energy to even practice making this safe makes them athletes. That's why not everyone can do this.

I don't think the question was whether or not they are athletes. Of course they are. Or even if the mat is hard or not. It is. But these are predetermined matches, with choregraphed moves. "Real" is such a broad word. Are they actually falling? Are you seeing two people wrestle around on the mat? Yes. But are they faking the punches, the submission holds, and how hurt they are? Of course. These are actors and professional wrestling is entertainment.

Actually, some of those submission holds do hurt.
(I did some wrestling schools when I was younger, and had the joy of being placed in some of them.)
It's still entertainment, they're still actors, and there's still a sucker born every minute. :>

Oh god, never doubt the moves don't hurt. I wrestle with my brother all the time and hurt him just as many times as we fight. The Sharpshooter, crippler cross face and the Liontamer hurt like hell.

Yes, but not when the wrestlers are doing them to eachother.
Captain N

well obviously. If wrestlers did do that for real they'd probably be able to do two maybe three matches and that's their career.

Okay, it's not fake. It's an act.

Wrestling IS fake plain and simple. If someone starts a debate with you about it and they say it is fake, the opposite stance isn't that wrestling moves hurt. The opposite stance is that wrestling isn't fake. Fact of the matter is, when someone starts an arguement with you saying that wrestling is fake, they are right and you are wrong.
Now of course they really do hit each other open fisted most of the time but sometimes they really have each other drop a fist on the chin, and yes, jumping off the top of the top rope and doing a frog splash onto someone else is going to hurt like all kinds of holy hell for both people, BUT, that doesn't change the fact that wrestling is fake.
If this person wants to say that these men don't feel the pain of the choreographed shows they put on, that is a different argument and you can tell him to go lay down on a boxing ring and have someone throw a 200+ pound bag of sand and twigs on his chest from 6+ feet in the air and then ask him if he thinks that that man on the opposite end of a Rob Van Dam Frog splash doesn't feel the same kind of pain he just felt, but that isn't saying wrestling is real. Thats saying these guys put themselves through alot of pain and hell to perform these scripted shows and fake fights for us and that's why they deserve more respect as actors and performers than some of the movie stars out there.

Wrong. Wrestling is scripted. They're still athletes, they still get hurt, they still risk their lives every night they go out.

Captain N you need to re read what I said. Where did I say they weren't atheletes and that they don't feel the pain of the matches they do? I said that in terms of if Wrestling is fake or real, it is fake. They write the storylines, create the characters, and choreograph the matches. Everything is scripted like a tv show or a movie. That means it is not real. I said nothing about the the pain of a 200+ man jumping from 6+ feet in the air and landing on you from 5 feet across the ring being fake. That PAIN is real, but everything about cenimatics of wrestling is fake.

What I never understood was those metal chairs they always smack each other with. Are they fake? Those things are heavy and could probably give you a concussion.

The chairs are not regular folding chairs, they absorb impact much greater then a regular chair does. The wrestlers also do not hit each other as hard as it appears on camera.
