So I just basically hosed my linux box but NOT PAYING ATTENTION to the directory I was in. I was in the Root directory when I thought I was in another directory and typed in "rm -rf" and basically removed my operating system. I should've stood in bed.

that is the reason you should not be in root unless you need be.

that is the reason you should not be in root unless you need be.Yeah, I know. I was in the root terminal in Ubuntu trying to setup Oracle 9i and basically shot myself in the ass. The funny thing is, on another forum, a poster there did something similiar. So I should've been aware. At least it was a test box, but damn, I was so close to getting it setup to how I liked it. :D

Can say I've nuked my Linux install yet.

Then again, I haven't done much with it to begin with.

Nope. He had to flatten and reinstall from scratch. He took it as a positive though, because it gave him the opporunity to start out fresh and not make some of the same goofs he'd made when he was originally fiddling around with it.

I should do that with my Linux box. It's running an old Red Hat 7.2 kernel, and it'd be easier to just format and install a new distro to get the upgrades and stuff rather than trying to upgrade that old kernel.

Only thing holding me back is just taking the time to backup everything (since the Linux box is my fileserver.)
