I went to get a case for my iPod today, and quickly located the Showcase black model which works fine. It has rubber around the edges so the iPod doesn't seem as flimsy and breakable. The entire face of the case is clear and see-thru, and only the Click Wheel is bare. On the back there's a little window of clear plastic so you can see the serial number of your shit.

While at the Apple store, I noticed they had headphones, so I picked the best choice. They only had the standard included Apple earphones, some other brand's earphones, Bose traditional headphones, and Altec Lansing behind-the-neck ones. Remembering my headphones research, the only option was the Altec Lansing ones, because the Bose were $150, whereas the others were only $50.

So, I get the Altec Lansing headphones and my case. My total was a little over 80 bucks .. not too bad. However, upon returning home, I notice something weird about the headphones. They look fuckin sweet, they're the same color as the iPod so I won't look nutty, and they sound awesome. But the don't have the padding over the actual part of the headphones that plays music. WTF?! How can this be?! I listened to music with the headphones for about an hour, and after 10 minutes of listening my ears hurt - bad.

Basically, I'm wondering if they sell those pads for headphones separately, because I'm the market for them now (fuck you Altec Lansing), and where I could get them. Thanks for any help.

I know the headphones that come with the iPod has the padding, but what the hell?

I wouldn't like metal going up against my ear either. Strange, have you checked Altex Lansing's website?

Yep, that was one of the first things I did. Upon opening the packaging and seeing just bare earphones I decided to see if my padding had gotten misplaced. Turns out that the headphones without the foaming is supposed to be more comfortable. However, after only an hour or less of use my ears KILLED. To buy padding for the earphones is a substantial amount of money. 50 bones for headphones with no padding, with the padding being an extra charge? Fuck you Altec.

I finally decided on Sennheiser PMX60 behind-the-neck headphones. They're aaaawweessoommeee.

I need to get a new pair of earbuds.

I really want a pair, as they're a lot less conspicuous than headphones. I've got a pair of the first generation wrap-around Sony headphones, which basically squeezes the back of my head. Really uncomfortable.

And the pair of buds that came with my Creative MP3 player are pretty bad. They make my ears sore.
