DS Gets Electro Plankton
Classic Nintendo themes to feature in new music game.
by Anoop Gantayat
March 3, 2005 - Band Brothers has proven a hit for the DS in Japan, giving players a chance to team up and make music through the new portable. For their next DS musical experience, gamers will want to take a look at the recently announced Electro Plankton.
Scheduled for Japanese release on 4/7 at a price of 4,571 yen (headphones included), Electro Plankton is being produced by Japanese contemporary musician Toshio Iwai, designer of SimTunes as well as other crazy interactive music devices, for release through a currently undisclosed publisher. The game is being referred to as a "Touchable Media Art" game.
Electro Plankton places players in a water-based world. Within that world there exists ten types of "electric plankton" creatures. These creatures react to your touch and voice. Based on your touches and voice inputs, the game will output different video and audio patterns, modifying your voice with a variety of effects.
This game seems to be designed for all players, from veterans to newbies. Game fanatics will find bonuses like classic NES music, with the game supposedly including the theme from Super Mario Bros. and other titles. You won't have to even play the game to enjoy it, as the included Audience Mode outputs endlessly changing audio automatically with no player input.
Definitely something we'll have to see for ourselves in order to fully appreciate.

To me, this game looks/seems oddly amusing. Your thoughts?

I lost all faith in the DS. All their "big hits" weren't that good

Just "wait" until April, but then the good ones will be delayed!

Um......
How can most of the DS games announced so far seem to be nothing more than $30 minigames?
Sure this game sounds interesting, but I'd like to see something with a little more depth on the DS.
Yoshi's Touch 'N Go.

He should because some people don't go to G4 anymore.

Rather than making a whole new thread on this, I thought it'd be better to bump the news:

I wants it. So I can have it in English. For all the good that does. Ooh, menu options of little import are readable now. Sweet!

The idea sounds awesome. Seems like the DS is getting better and better everytime I hear news about it. I think I may just pick this one up.

And it's only for purchase via online retailers or the Nintendo World Store in NYC.
Just my luck. :-(

Well, I lack a credit card - and my parents think the internet is evil and all that kind of stuff.
And of all the things to buy from the internet, I doubt they'd want to use a credit card for something like video games.

I think I heard Blackwolf mention this a show or two ago. Seems pretty original, not sure how cool it is, but I did notice it said limited and availible online only. So those thinking about it may need to get moving, for those who don't know about it, here's the Gamestop page.

I was hyped about this way earlier this year.
It's a shame only online retailers and the Nintendo NYC store have it though. I would have bought it without a doubt had it been retailed like most games.

Gamestop.com saying its a limited quantity makes me scared about not pre-ordering it first. I may have to do it soon.

EDIT: So now it's back ordered. Wonder if that means they actually didn't have enough, or none at all?

I broke down and ordered from Nintendo.com on Friday, they shipped it yesterday and I got it today, and cancelled the Amazon order. (Which is now being serviced by Gamestop, while last week it was alternating between Toys R' Us and Target, depending on whenever you checked.)
Played it during my lunch break. I found it very interesting and fun, but I can definately tell that it won't be for everybody, and it's very wise that Nintendo made it such a limited release. Random Joe would pick this up off the shelf at Best Buy and return it immediately because he wouldn't like it.
I plan on recording an audio review of all 10 modes for the next Bobby Blackwolf Show.

You got yours? I still have yet to see mine, though I know it shipped. The UPS man pulled by today, but nothin'. Grr.
(Checked the order tracking, says tomorrow, mmkay. I'll have it to putz around with at the bar during trivia night. Sweet.)

Yeah, there's a lot of stuff they tell you in the manual that you wouldn't think of. Definately a game where you read it.

For us, the term "game" usually means: 1. blowing heads off zombies; 2. running over old ladies while driving something called the "death mobile" . . .
Eh, Stuff is their own undoing.

Heh.
Seriously, I'm going to be doing an audio review of all ten modes on the next show, probably recording it on Saturday. I'd love to have people in this thread tell me which plankton is their favorite and if there's anything you feel people should know about the "game" if they're on the fence. I'm going to be highlighting all sides, so don't be shy.
