Watched Cowboy Bebop-- The movie and series. Loved it.
Watched Ninja Scroll. Devoured It.
I don't care if it's Ninjas, Cowboys, Samuri, Dragons and Knights, Spaceships or Magic Fireballs...Hit me up with what YOU think I should watch to learn more about anime...
I officially name this thread--

Well, the best anime to start out with is Dragonball Z, but I recommend Trigun and Full Metal Alchemist.

Well for easy to get into series a lot of the action shounen series are good for that.
Like Naruto, Bleach, and so on. A lot of fun to watch. Also since you liked Bebop you'll definately like Samurai Champloo.
As for anime movies though Grave of the Fireflies is by far the best.

I was hoping to grab Castle in the Sky with the Buy Nausicaa, Porco Rosso, and the Cat Returns deal. Haven't seen any of them yet.

Neon Genesis Evangelion is a good one to start out with.
And Zane DBZ is complete shit.
Yep. Good one to start out with, IMO, though.

I'd say Dragonball is a better choice. Sure it does have the same dragged out plots like DBZ but atleast they arent redundant and dont usually last as long.
Yeah, I think both are good. But GT is definitely not a good one to start out on.

Two animes you really should see. Some have liked 'em and some haven't
1) Akira - Its a stunner. I still don't get it to this day and I've seen it in several different "mindsets"
2) Ghost in the Shell - the first movie. I didn't care for the series and haven't seen the second film.
Mindless good ole fun anime
1)Patlabor - Yer standard mecha-like anime. The first two films are great discussions on technology (film #1) and politics (film #2). There are two tv series. The original is more serious then the second. But they're good. Don't watch the third Patlabor film. Different director, follows minor characters from the other movies and shows. Plus, it just wasn't that good.
2) Big O - Dark City (the movie) meets mecha.
3) Vandread - standard space anime with standard anime babes in standard tight clothes

2 Anime Movies that are a must to see are Akira and Princess Mononoke.
There are quite a few good series to get into also. The ones that I would recomend most would be Record of Lodoss War, Hellsing (Short but still good), Slayers, and FLCL is also excelent too. These are a very wide range of Genres so you may want to read up on them to see if they will interest you.

I dislike Anime entirely, I just really can't stand it.

Berserk. Seriously, Berserk. Way cooler then most of the kiddie shit alot of people watch. You can get the box set at bestbuy. it says season 1, but there is only 1 season. Totally worth it though.
2 Anime Movies that are a must to see are Akira.

For comedy, definately go with Azumanga Daioh, FLCL*, and Abenobashi
For drama/action, go with Evangelion and Bleach.
*Warning, FLCL will be confusing when you first watch it through. The best thing to do is to is go here: http://www.agefive.com/FLCL/html/episode_guide.html after watching an episode.

Bebop is good, but I think Trigun is a lot better.
Another good anime is Magic Knight Rayearth, one of my favorite animes ever that I recently discovered.
And the most critically acclaimed anime would probably be Neon Genesis Evangelion and both Ghost in the Shell movies (I haven't seen any though so I can't say much about them =/)

I tired watching trigun, but I don't like anime where the people don't look normal. With the exception of Ed who occasionally will get all big eyed and stuff. That's why I like Bebop, because it looks realistic.

it's just a pure, simple, and fun
after that go for:
Naruto
Orginal DragonBall (sort of like Naruto)
Samurai Champloo
Full Metal Alchemist
Gundam Wing was fun to watch
Akira
Fist Of The North Star
those are good to have fun with.

Akira and the Patlabor flicks also offer some great realism of the people and the surrounding landscape. Then you'd probably like Ghost in the Shell.A lot of the scenic shots from that one are stunning. The ferry scene is great.

Skiping past the easy to go into genre, the anime with the best story(from what I've heard anyways) are Haibane Renmei, Boogiepop Phantom, and Serial Experiment Lain.
Good for those who don't enjoy the ^_^;;;;;

Big O season 2 was trying to hard.True, It had been a few years in between the two seasons, so the creators had more than liekly moved onto other projects and tried to wrap it up a little too fast to appease the fans. And I wasn't fully satisifed with the ending, but I still think it's one of the better ones out there.
Ya know, I really, and I mean really, need to get a damn life :|

YES. Naruto is quickly becoming my favorite anime of all time.
I watched Voltron back in the day. And some Prince Valient. I didnt know what ANIME was back then, but those were the first.
Dragonball Z was the first anime that I ever watched religiously. Sure, it has its flaws, but it wouldnt have gained such a huge fanbase if it was shit. Some people diss on it just because its so mainstream. To those people: Shove it up your blowholes.
Akira Toryiama is a genius. His art is instantly recognizable. He did the artwork for the DRAGONWARRIOR games, he did the art for TOBAL NO. 1. His most famous gamework would probably have to be with CHRONO TRIGGER, though. Hands down. The man needs a kiss. And a big hug, too.

you saw cowboy bebop, the rest of the stuff on AS is also a good starting point, watch trigun, big O, FLCL, .hack, and most of the other stuff they showed.
also, more than half of what ttv ran back in the day was good primer.

I always thought Dragonball Z was lame. Really lame. Half the damn episode is some guy hanging in air with the background flying past him 100mph, mouth agape, screaming some inaudible shit. It seems to cater more to kids than to anything, and I don't like that. I prefer anime that is more adult oriented.

I found that Bobobobo Bobobo is a better random show than Cromartie High... it's just taking the fansubbers forever to get anything done with it. :(
...and apparently, Cartoon Network licensed it for a Q4 release this year. It better be an Adult Swim move, or else it's going to get massacred. And even then, I kinda worry. ;_; Tiny tears in memoriam of greatness. But eh, so long as I can get DVDs and watch them subbed, I don't care.
