the silver scale on the left bottom of every post, if you think someone deseres to be praised for somthign good they have doe click it and select to add + reputation, if you think it was really bad add - reputation. that is what the green bars mean below your name. You get rewarded for good reputation.

I use it. If I like the way you said something (even if I don't agree with it) I'll give reputation and write a comment. If you act like a douche, I leave negative reputation and write a comment.
You can see the comments on a particular post in the "User CP" page. (You can't see who wrote them, though.)
Users with high enough reputation will become Super Moderators. How high, we haven't determined yet. :>

I used it once, but for the most part I don't alot since its kind of hard, at least if you ask me, to pick out a particular post thats "worthy". I mean usually these things tend to be the longer a post is the better people think it is, so long as it has even just a couple sentences of useful information. I think we all know, at least those of us from G4, who the good posters and who the bad posters are, so rating certain posts is kind of hard since what makes one post different then another? I like the feature, I mean I think its a great idea and all, just kind of hard to actually pull off since different people have different opinions.
Plus no one has referred me. :smt022 Heh you all suck! J/K.
EDIT: I just saw Blackwolfs post and went to check mine. Apparently I have got two. One a blank one and then another one who I think I can figure out who its from, not like it matters though. Is there a well to tell if its positive or negative? Their just like sitting there. Whats a referrel then? If you check your profle it will say how many you have, so I would think a positive feedback comment would mean its a referrel or something.

I hope it will be in a way that can make things kind of evened out though. Since usually at message forums the older members with a ton of posts tend to act superior to newer members. Or just other members in general, regardless of join date. I look forward to what all your "modifications" will be though. Any chance of letting us know if your trying to make this a site like GameFAQs? I'm guessing that one over IGN since IGN is a buisness site like G4 and here you guys allow stuff they wouldn't.
EDIT: Sweet both mine are green, even the blank one. Thanks to both of you, or the one of you who it was.
BTW, Duality I bitch anyway so no worries there.

thats why I think the reputation feature is so good. I don't want to see this turn into anouther g4techtv forum, that place is out of control. with this instead of flamign the person they can give them bad reputation. I believe I read somewhere that if it gets really bad you can make it so they are on a type of probation, and it encourages you not to bitch at them becuase others will give you negative reputation too.

I think the good thing though is that alot of the spammers and bad members never seem to come over to these other forums. Like this one and M3w's forums. I guess their just to busy wasting their lives over at G4. Heh have some diversity, I waste my life at both!

The best thing to is I can say I wasn't involved, for once. I have made like maybe 25 posts in the last week at G4. Those forums have been going so slow for me for some reason lately. And its only that site really, and I have DSl to! DAMN MS! And yes I can say that since I have MSN and MS Internet Explorer keeps popping up and screwing everything up. People complain about AOL, well having had both I can tell you, MSN is worse. We have Verizon DSL with MSN, but Verizon provides the DSL service to AOL as well and it never went this slow or had this many problems so soon. I mean its been a month and I hate it already, not a good sign.
About my custom I was mostly just making a joke. But I might change it eventually if I end up keeping this avatar. Unless I were picked as a mod then I would change it to mod or whatever forum mod since I think it would be helpful to newer people then knowing who the mods are. Thats a problem I have with G4, I have been there over a year and I still don't even know who all the mod, senior mods, and admins are. I suggest they just make one big list of who everyone is since it would help, but I was told there was a list of who the senior mods are, which doesn't exactly help since that just pertains to getting your custom changed mostly.

Also, that icon is so kick-ass, I'm gonna have to use it now for no reason whatsoever. :smt035 Now back to the main topic, I think you should be able to know who left you the rep instead of it being an anoymous affair. I'm using it only when I see something special.

Aww man...Suckage!
I've been giving a lot of rep points, almost to the point that I can't give any more out. I've also been rating a lot of threads, but they need at least two votes before they show up anywhere.

No what I think he meant was you can only give out one rep point per person per day. I suppose thats to make it so you don't just give 1 person a positive rep for every post they make. To prevent the "you scratch my back I'll scratch yours" type of alliance or whatever. It would be nice if it was a little higher then 1, but if not thats still ok.

Thats exactly what it is, but it also goes for giving bad rep. I say we get on apulo's ass about making it so say, you can give rep to someone more than once a day but you have to give 5 other people rep before you can give it back again to someone.

I don't think thats really great either though since hypathetically someone could make a good post in the morning and then theres not really any posts or all bad ones the rest of the day, and then at night that same person from the morning makes another good post. I would limit it to giving 3 good or bad votes per person per day. So like I could vote 3 times for each person on the boards each day. I would think that would cover it pretty well. I mean lets face it, what are the chances someone is going to give 4 really great posts in one single day that you would feel the need to vote for each one?

I agree.... I think we need to work out a good plan then show it to apulo and see what he could do.
I think what would be better (although you had a good plan) would be to make it so you can give rep more than 20 times a day, and to a person more than once a day, but if you give someone rep, you have to give 5 other people rep before you can give it to someone again. Also if it is possible, make it so you cant give those 5 points all in the same hour, to help stop people from just constantly giving the same 5 people bad rep.

Actually, what it is is that 20 other people have to give a person rep before you can give that person any rep again.
Its to avoid one person being able to boost or trash a single person's rep.

OK everyone. The thing is some people make a lot of things that deserve rep, both good and bad, but if nto enough people give out rep then it takes more time between when you give someone rep adn when you can give them more. So if you don't give much rep, or any at all, if you do things will go more slowly. Also its the rep that counts on these forums, not post count, so if you give rep, don't worry about others not giving any (because you all will be, right? ;) )
hope that persuaded some of you who dont give rep to do so :D also the thread rating feature is nice too, and now ratings show up after 1 vote, instead of needing 2 (thanks to Apulo).

OK I found out that a grey bar is NOT negative rep, it just means the person who gave you it doesnt have enough power (by post count, rep they have etc.) to give you rep that acually counts, so if you have a grey bar showing up, it just means that, and no + or - rep was given. Negative rep shows up as a red bar.

I think there should be a requirment that you have to give some type of comment as well when you give someone a rep, good or bad. I say this because someone gave me a rep for one of my posts that showed up grey, so I'm guessing its from a person with under 50 posts. Well the thing is I don't know if it was supposed to be a positive one or a negative one since no comment was given. And it was a little bit long so they could disagree with 1 out of at least 5 points I might have made. Thats just what kind of annoys me if someone gives a rep, especially if its a bad one, and then doesn't say why. And when I say required I'm talking about more then just saying "I agree" or "I disagree". I'm not talking about a speech here, but something to let the person know why you gave them what you did. I think it could be helpful.

How are you at 71 already? I mean what have you posted thats so great? I don't mean to offend you or anything at all, but it doesn't seem like anyone here has done anything really ground breaking as to warrant a huge rep. Lets face it no one here is going to win a pulitzer anytime soon. Thats the thing that kind of bugs me though, using the rep future because its there, not because people actually deserve it. I doubt I deserve all of the rep I have got, just like I doubt some of the rep others have got. To be honest so far I haven't seen anything really special. Sure some posts have been good ones, but for the most part its just normal posts from a message forum. Heh here come the nagative reps for me.
