The Devil Rays are worth less as an entire franchise than the Yankees payroll.

But they do make a lot of operating income so take that all naysayers who want to contract them.

Sucks for the fans that they don't spend it on the team.

Yep. Naimoli is a greedy a-hole. But then I again I wouldn't trust Chuck Lamar to spend it properly. I wish they'd wake up and make some front office changes already. We don't need another "Hit Show" debacle but I'd like for us to be more secure in that we're gonna keep the few young players that actually develop into stars and add a guy or two that will help em out.

Wow, that's the one of the highest operating income in baseball. Unlike the Red Sox who are at minus 11.3. but it's worth it to win a championship after 80+ years without.

Forbes (http://www.forbes.com/lists/results.jhtml?bktDisplayField=stringfield1&bktDisplayFieldLength=2&passListId=33&passYear=2005&passListType=Misc&searchParameter1=unset&searchParameter2=unset&resultsStart=1&resultsHowMany=30&resultsSortProperties=%2Bstringfield1%2C%2Bnumberf ield1&resultsSortCategoryName=Team&category1=category&category2=category&passKeyword=) gives much more detailed information about the teams. They also label Tampa "The most horrific baseball franchise of the modern era." :wink2:

I'd say the Pirates are worse. They have far fewer excuses. A brand new ballpark, a storied past, fairly recent success before it all went to pieces in the 90's. Also they play in a much easier division. Not so much that the other teams aren't great, but it's pretty wide open compared to just Sox and Yanks piling it on with $100+ million payrolls.

But yeah the Rays are wretched. All the ridiculous mistakes they've made, and then on top of that they have awful luck (I mean one of our best prospects just managed to get himself shot in the chest somehow, while another turned into a crackhead, WTF are you supposed to do about that?). That'll give us more to laugh about and enjoy when they finally start winning though. It's funny how things repeat themselves with each of our sports teams. Should note though they had the most wins last season-per-dollar-of payroll for any team, which means they're getting more efficient with the money at least.

I could've sworn your profile at G4 said you hated baseball, Burr. Do you just root for the Rays out of hometown pride?

Yeah plus the fact that there's no hockey to talk about. I have to talk about something. I still think baseball is pretty boring and could be a lot better. At least having something invested in the Rays has made me appreciate it a little more.

I find it kind of funny that the Red Sox are considered to only be worth 563 million dollars when John Henry and the few others had just payed nearly 800 million dollars for them, the most spent for any baseball team ever. I think it might actually be the most spent for any sports team ever, at least in the U.S.

Also I laugh at Nintendo owning the Mariners yet choosing a Boston player to be on the cover of their baseball game. Better then a Yankees player.
