So im sure you guys have all seen it by now.....
What do you guys think? Most sportscasters are siding with Sheffield and are commending him for not turning it into the "Malice at Auburn Hills". Im glad there was no major incident! Phew *sigh of relief*
I mean I dislike Boston b/c it's a pre-requisite of being a Yankee Fan, but I would never wish something like this on any team.

Fans like that should be banned from sporting events.

I have no idea what the guy was thinking. Best I can figure, he was doing a "Yeah!" fist pump kind of thing. Doing it on the field of play: Retarded. But I don't think he hit Sheff on purpose. He should probably be banned for the season, and maybe have his season tickets taken away.
Edit: On second thought, there's no maybe about. A precedent needs to be sent, even if it was unintentional.
As for Sheffiel, I'm not going to praise him for his restraint. That's what he should do. I think he was wrong to turn and shove the fan like he did, but I wouldn't suspend him or anything (though I think he should've been tossed from the game).
Kudos to security for reacting so quick.
I was on the bike at the gym watching and was laughing my ass off. It just seems like these two teams are built for drama. As for Sheff, I think he assumed the guy was goin for him, when it looks like he was just trying to get in front of the ball. Idiot fan, sheff shouldn't have taken the bait.
That was really weird and hard to explain what was really going on. Good thing everyone restrained themselves and it was broken up. Nobody should get on Sheffield for reacting. You have to react SOMEHOW unless you're a robot. And the way he reacted wasn't out of line at all, IMO. Relative non-incident.

After seeing the clip MULTIPLE TIMES, ( Thanks ESPN ) it just looked like the guy was reaching for the ball & pulled his arm up when Sheff was bending over to pick it up. At the MOST, the guys arm/hand hit Sheffs CAP. Sheff said later that he thought he busted his lips is laughable. Busted his lip? I didn't see any blood. I didn't see any swelling. The guy was just trying to cover his ass. The fan should get in trouble because he shouldn't have had his arm over the wall to begin with but Sheff should get in a little trouble as well because he did shove at a fan before stepping back & letting security handle it. It's possible the fan may have tried to maybe knock Sheffs hat off when pulling his arm back up but I don't buy that he was trying to hit him. If he wanted to hit him, he could have punched downwards at the side of his head. Would have done more damage.

I really don't think either were out of line. The fan was a dumbass, but he wasn't being malicious, only trying to reach for the ball. As Ultra said, if he wanted to fuck with shef, he could have done a much better job, easily. Sheffield reacted, pretty decently, if you ask me. I would have fucking gone off on the guy, and beat his face in; In retrospect, he acted as well as anyone could have asked him to. In the spurt of the moment, one can't expect immediate decency.
Kick the fan for the game, nothing more. Shef did a good job, let him alone.

That dude that "accidentally" threw the beer is the worst actor ever. You could see that he did it intentionally so easily.

Yeah, that guy was lame. He's banned from the park for the year now.
By the way, a Red Sox fan has had his season ticket revoked for making contact with Yankee Gary Sheffield last week at Fenway. Sheff better keep moving when the Yanks visit St. Pete. How many Rays fans are dying to have their season tickets revoked?

He deserves it. It was stupid. Sheffield almost had a case of the "Roid Rage".
