I thought it would be cool to exchange artwork and techniques with other people on the boards. Simply post a pic or two and critique the work.
I'll go first...

The MSpaint style is one of grace and solid foundation. The mixture of colors creates a flurry of passion between the creator and his work. Leaving the soul.

My favorite work so far. (http://www.deviantart.com/view/9718956/)
A very strangely drawn profile of Keanu Reeves. It's a poor picture of it, and I don't have a digi cam around to take a better one at the moment. Done with nothing but different art pencils and free-hand copied from a magazine. It's almost a caricature.

<= I consider this Second Life av to be an artwork, heheh.. Everyone seems to love it anyway. Cute lil' Bolt Fox.
I scribble or doodle things every now and then but consider them to be too personal to share. *shrug* Maybe after I graduate I put some real effort into a drawing like I used to when I was younger and see what happens. Mush puts me to shame though, at least from what I can tell of the couple drawings of his he showed me. Silly thing wont put up a portfolio on the web, though. :p

Bah I wish I could draw. It would be nice since then I could just paint or draw some cool picture of a dragon or whatnot. But alas I don't seem to have that talent. Heh I have shitty handwriting to. I always have and probably always will. The extent of my art "talent" is MS pain, and even then I believe Rayo still puts me to shame as sad as that is to say considering its not anything THAT difficult to make.

To Matrix and m4d, art class is incredibly helpful. It won't make you a better artist (that all depends on you), but it will help you find a path. As I see it, art class does two things for you.
1.) It will open you to different mediums (photography, paint, collage, crayon, oil pastel, charcoal).
2.) The art teacher will eventually piss you off on purpose. This will make you spark and act as a catalyst to finding your style.
Hope to see stuff from both of you soon.

Ya, The old bitch always wants to do mine (she basically does everyone elses), but I just do it my own way. I don't like people do stuff to my work, if it comes out shitty, I know I did it. Not someone else.
I think my collage came out really well, but it was so messed. It has a Spartan, a Jedi, and Sam Fisher... with explosions. Kinda cramped though. We had to take a 4X4" square (or smaller) and get mag pics, and then draw them onto a 16X16" piece of paper, and then color it with colored pencils, and blend it. It was so hard to get the details, but I think it came out pretty good (minus the jedi's face....). I'll post it in June when I get to take it home. ;(

Oi, I hate working with collages.
They're hard as hell (drawing them shits). I think I got a 95 on it.
Right now we're drawing still lifes... Did one in Pencil first with 3 white objects. I hate doing that shit. I got a 89 on it because I couldn't get the cube shaped right because the other objects were blocking part of it and in weird positions in my POV.
The one I'm doing now is still life colored objects.... a pitcher, chili peppers, and a pear... We have to draw all the cloth folds too....WITH THE FUCKING PATTERNS. Wow, it sucks so bad. Then we have to color it in with oil pastels...
Damn....
Blank

Oi, still lifes are such a joy to do... :(
In any case, here's a crappy pic of the painting I did for my final project in art. I was trying to paint in an impressionist style. In any case, it's called Beautiful Mum.

Good stuff Empty. The first one intrigues me.
I was able to get the storyboard frames and stuff all together to show you guys. It's a weird project, slightly rushed as well. I also painted the storyboard (not the frames). Here's the storyboard back that would hold the frames.

I wanted to make it look like a cave painting or very primal.

I try to do some trippy stuff. The thing is, a lot of GFxer's think my work is shit, which pisses me off, as most of them can't work with the pen tool at all, nor do some of the brushing I've lucked out upon.

Use layer masks. If you don't know how, I'll tell you, or find a short little tut to read. Its better than erasing, as you don't have to worry about screwing up, as its easily fixed.

But Im starting with this, if you want to use it in the contest go ahead, it doesnt fit the criteria though so Im still willing to make another tag.

Yes, thats me in the picture, albeit a bit deformed. And I was going for a really bright look while just trying to get back into the whole tagging deal. I was also in a silent and calmly frustrated mood so that also expressed my current feelings at the time. Which I'm glad they do, art should express some sort of emotion. Well, it helps at least.

its pretty good, my only problem is that the stock should flow a little better with the rest of it, make it all seem like its flowing in one direction. And maybe incorporate him more in some way, you dont have to do that but I always like to so its been a preference of mine.
But i still really like it. And I dont want to have the battle just yet, I want to get back into sig making some more before I go at it. I want to actually MAKE a sig instead of just mess around like i did on that one :/
EDIT: http://www.jdees.org/upload/userfiles/Ender/xzyonbattlegif.gif now this one has a REALLY good flow, but i still have tiny little pet peeves, maybe try something else with the text (the pulsing is nice, but lowers its quality and needs to be placed somewhere slightly different). I really like that though, has better flow which can mean the world

Well, I did take a class, but I woudlnt' say it helped, much. Most of what we learned was just simple photomanipulations, and how to do a styled frame, or something :/. Pretty much retinting eye color, how to cut, and that kind of stuff. Through 18 weeks, of 90 minutes a day, I think I learned more in 30 minutes alone at home with my copy.
Basically, I just read tutorials. I never copied them, not even a dual test during a read. Just read the material, get the general ideas, and go at it yourself. The sig I think you're talking about was actually pretty simple. I took a default brush (kinda like a really large speckled thing 100pixel standard) and opened up a 900 by 900 canvas. I made about 8 different layers, and scribbled random lines and stuff. I then overlayed them (blending effects), and changed the hues to get that general look. I then did some touching up here and there, with stuff I've picked up over time, and got the result. :/
So, I guess the thing is, read some tuts (dont' actually do them, just get general ideas), and practice a lot on your own. I estimate my experience to be about a year, so, yeah. :)
Now, on a sidenote, some of the artists I envy most (Erde, Gippal) claim to have never used tuts. I just find that they rapidly improve starting ability. :/
PS-If you'd like a tut, or something, I'll be glad to write something up. I've got a few simple effects that I think are totally kickass.
Doug-Drawing is kickarse.

keep going with it beck, i love the second one's colors. But maybe do a gaussian blur effect to it (if you know what im talking about)
its a popular effect lately among the media and movies and other places, just use gaussian blur on the picture. then go to edit and click "fade guassian blur" and fade it enough to where it looks like the pic has a soft tint to it. When done right, it can look pretty good. Dont leave too much of the softness tho, use moderation in your decision.
Good work tho Beck!
Also, here's something I made out of hate for my stepmom :D

Lol at your thing. Neat though.
I know what guassian blur is, but I like that it looks so sharp. That kind of blur would kind of kill it in my eyes, especially since it took about 9 hours to complete. :/

I'm starting to get into poetry a lot because of my Creative Writing class.
The Great Painted Wall
I see a million suffering children
but now I don’t
they have disappeared from my sight
and I can’t even remember them
because you built a wall
and painted it
with distractions galore
while people die
you make the living miserable
forcing them into tears
wanting suicide
and you only do it
because your mother told you
no rationality
it never makes sense
but I know one thing for sure
the result is always fatality
you’re not pro-life
or pro-family at that
you’re just pro... pro-Anti-Christ
Untitled Projective Verse Poem (dammit, it's not formatted in the way it's supposed to be. if you want the full effect of the poem, read it here (http://blog.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=blog.view&friendID=11756416&blogID=67797160&Mytoken=e644a768-d7a9-49f9-ae8d-4662e654677c))
When people look
at me
they see quite a confident person
I agree
What some may not know
is there are some things I hide
nothing serious like deep hate or suicide
but I doubt myself
about a number of things
whether I’m doing the right thing
or
if I should have taken a hike
sometimes I cannot feel good
and it’s a feeling I do not like
the feelings must be deep
because I’m a logical person
I know that to be true
Just ask me about anything evolutionary
so why do I bother dwelling on this
it has to be things that were progressively planted into me
progressively, I say? how so?
well how about my family?
that seems to be the rationale behind my irrationality
it’s the old tale of pathos over logos
that throws down the ethos
and it’s a problem that is not so easily remedied
so what do I do now?
I know what the problem is
so can’t I just get rid of it?
No
it’s not that easy
it’s something I have to treat
as I continue to live
someday I will claim victory
and have these problems beat
I guess I can live with that
to be aware and not to be blind
is to let people get the true find
so what you see
and what you smell
may happen to be
a living hell
but I’ll place a bet
If you want me
there are no detours
it’s what you’ll get.

" it’s the old tale of pathos over logos
that throws down the ethos
and it’s a problem that is not so easily remedied"
I liked that part, from the second poem the most. I didn't like the first poem, I just interpreted it as whining. I'll share with you my Christmas poem/song that I wrote last year (as soon as I can find it). I might make up something else this morning and see what you think too.
Edit: ok I found it, here you go....
Santa.
I looked with hate at santa's sled so red,
while visions of beating him danced through my head.
He looked at me and I gave him a glare,
that giant fat bastard should know not to stare.
I climbed up to the roof and began to prepare
He said "young man, just what do you dare?"
I said "I'll kick your ass santa, so don't give me s**t"
"I'll break your arms off, right from your armpits"
So I came at santa, fists for his face,
that jolly red f**k sprayed me with mace.

Luminosity typically doesn't turn out well, Personally, what I sould do, is take each different set of blue, an manually change the color to something in the background.
Like, dark blue into the blue in back, light blue to red, and then his skin tone to the tan/toupe in the background. That is, if you keep it. :/
But by all means, I'm not that great at PS. :/

Yeah I was thinking of the 20s all being different blues with different applications.
As for the background.... I need something tht isn't solid. I just used that because it is what I had from class. So maybe I should break out and snap a shot of a blueish shirt....

For the storm trooper shirt, I printed out a few stormtrooper pictures for reference. Then I drew a helmet quite big on a manilla folder and used an exacto knife to cut out the black parts. Then I obtained very shitty cheap spray paint, cause I'm piss broke all of the time, and just sprayed it onto a white shirt. You can tell it was spray painted on some of the edges, so it doesn't look high quality. I'd like to think it gives it a grungy look, but in reality it makes it look cheaper than it really it. Which is pretty cheap. I wanna know how Ender made his look so clean and even. Almost professional.
