View Full Version : Devil Rays are the ultimate slumpbusters..
Good God. One day after Steinbrenner rips into his own all-star team we get this..
THIRTEEN RUNS IN ONE INNING
- A. Rodriguez homered to deep left, H. Matsui scored
- T. Martinez singled to right, J. Giambi scored, T. Martinez to second on right fielder C. Singleton's fielding error
- D. Jeter singled to right center, T. Martinez scored, T. Womack to third
- B. Williams singled to right, T. Womack scored, D. Jeter to second
- G. Sheffield singled to left center, D. Jeter scored, B. Williams to second
- A. Rodriguez doubled to deep left, B. Williams and G. Sheffield scored, H. Matsui to third
- J. Posada singled to right, H. Matsui scored, A. Rodriguez to third, J. Giambi to second
- T. Martinez homered to deep right, A. Rodriguez, J. Giambi and J. Posada scored
That's fucking downright comical. Really.

Haha, I was following that online. That's just sad. And realling disappointing, too. It would've been supremely satisfying for the Rays to win. I guess that's what happens when you have Rod Fucking Bell pitching against you.
Edit: Rays got 2 back! Yeah!
2nd edit: I can't really complain, though, either, after the Sox just finished killing them, too.
Well at least the Rays are back in the same universe, sort of. 15-8 now at the bottom of the 6th. Shame all that offense is going to waste.

Jaret Wright sucks. It's awesome.

Heh all I care about is the 3 best words you can EVER hear: "Last place Yankees." I mean when was the last time the Yankees were ever below second place, let alone actually in last? I don't remember them ever being in last place in my lifetime. But I suppose I shouldn't be THAT happy considering it is only the first few weeks of the season. Heh I just hope it keeps up and the Yankees stay in last, that would be so great.
They're not in last any more after that game, the Rays kicked 'em out of the cellar with authority.

What's hilarious is the Yankees were getting all sorts of fun questions after the game. "Was this a statement game?" "Were you motivated by Steinbrenner?" etc, etc. It was the fucking Devil Rays! And you were facing their 5th starter. God. Ol' Georgie Porgie timed his statement perfectly to try and make himself look good.

They're actually in about the same position as they were this time last year as far as record goes, but we all remember what happened from then on last season.
Steinbrenner is a stupid fuck. He doesn't want to play by the rules and construct an actual, real, solid, talented baseball team like everyone else. He wants to build this all-star team and throw them out there and expect them to win every game. He bases so much of his personal success on how the Yankees are doing at any given moment. If they aren't winning every single game he's somehow considered a failure in his eyes, and he starts to complain. You can't throw a bunch of superstars on a team and have them win just like that, *poof*. If you've seen the all-star game, they don't play a real version of the sport. They have no chemistry. They're just a bunch of superstars trying to put up superstar numbers and be the #1 superstar on a team full of people just like them.
If the Lakers last year are any indication to Steinbrenner, or his past three failed seasons, he needs to re-evaluate his standards of what a good baseball team is, because he's fucking the sport of baseball right in its round, plump ass.

The thing is, he's paying them like all-stars, but they're not an all-star team anymore. Bernie Williams is killing them in CF. Giambi's a shell of his roided-up self. Tino Martinez is well past his prime. Kevin Brown? Ha! Tony Womack sucks. Jaret Wright sucks, but they gave him big bucks because of one good year. Pavano, too, but I think he'll turn out okay. And their bench is complete shit, considering that their payroll is over $200 mil.

John and I actually talked about Bernie being a weakness in Center a few weeks into spring training, so that doesn't surprise me much. I'm still a hater of Giambi(ever since he was on the A's) and I still gotta support my boy Tino(still my favorite player of all time). Tino plays better defense than Giambi, and is a better hitter. Giambi is losing power slowly, but next year, he'll look like he's 50.
As for Womack, he's a hell of a lot better than Cairo, that's all I gotta say.
Pitching, Pavano looks good for what I've seen, he just hasn't had the offense to back him up, and I have no clue why we gave Wright and Brown that kind of money.
My problem is A-Rod. I never wanted him, and now he's a liability at 3rd base. He's too focused on being a "True Yankee" and not concentrating on hitting the ball or playing defense. He's had 2 errors at crucial times for saves, and that's not going to get the job done. If we can somehow trade him for a good young 3rd basemen, I'll be happy. But knowing George, he'll work something out before the trade deadline.

Heh we don't want him anymore. :D I just find it funny though that after the Red Sox win the World Series Steinbrenner still insists on paying people huge amounts of money because he thinks that will make them play better. I mean most of the Yankees team now aren't even real All-Star players. A-Rod and Jeter would be yes, Giambi was but not anymore, maybe Williams and after that theres not really anyone. Well Messina, hes still on the Yankees right? Hes pretty damn good, and they would have been screwed without him last year.
Heh I think Stienbrenner is a Republican. You know the whole menality of "just throw money at it and hope the problem goes away." Just kidding.

You may like Tino, and with good reason, but he should not be starting on a $200 mil. team.
As for Womack, he's a hell of a lot better than Cairo, that's all I gotta say.
While that wouldn't be saying much, it's not exactly true. In 360 ABs last year, Cairo had 6 HR and 42 RBI. Womack had 3 and 38, in 553 ABs. Womack's career OPS: .680. Cairo: .692. Last year Cairo posted an OPS+ of 102, while Womack's was 93. Fielding, they're just about the same player, with Cairo making less errors. Womack's career Range Factor is 4.29. Cairo's is 4.85. Cairo also would cost over a million less for this season. Either way, neither of these guys should be starting on the highest paid team in the league.
I have no clue why we gave Wright and Brown that kind of money.
It's called severely overpaying to make sure they don't go anywhere else.

Rodriguez should be playing SS. Jeter should be in CF.
This will probably jinx it, but things are looking better tonight. Rays up 5-2 in the 8th. Hideo Nomo outperforming the Big Unit? You've got to be kidding. I guess the Yankees really are underperforming.
Edit: It's a final. Rays win 6-2. w00t! :smt038

Johnson's stuff has been pretty much shit all season, even in his win against the Sox. Either he's taking awhile to get warmed up, or he's too damned old.

Took the Yankees long enough to figure that out.
