My favorite launch games of all systems I've played is probably the last 3 generations of Nintendo's consoles.

Super Mario World

Super Mario World was a fantastic launch title and helped Nintendo lock up the first place spot in the console race early this gen.

Super Mario 64

Super Mario 64 is definitely one of the best games of all time. And is probably the greatest inspiration for every good 3D platformer to come ever since.

Star Wars Rogue Leader: Rogue Squadron II

Rogue Squadron II was practically a remake of the original Rogue Squadron and Factor 5 perfected every detail that was wrong in the original 64 game. Not only was the gameplay spectacular, but it also boasted the highest polygon of any console game ever at that point.

These 3, are, IMO, the best launch games I have ever played. (Coincidentally, they're all on Nintendo consoles :P)

Super Smash Bros Melee for the Gamecube(I think it came out like a week after launch but whatever) and as you said Super Mario 64

Super Nintendo got it's ass kicked by Genesis. They didn't lock anything.

Mario World was a great game, but Sonic helped the Genesis sell more.

As for best launch game ever. It is Mario 64.

Genesis out sold the Super Nintendo in America.

But there were still twice as many SNES consoles sold overall than Genesis consoles.

And according to Wikipedia, the SNES eventually overtook the Genesis, despite having more costly games and being released later than the Genesis.

Genesis out sold the Super Nintendo in America.

Not overall, no. It did beat the SNES for a little bit because the Genesis was released earlier than the SNES, but in the end the SNES sold more consoles than the Genesis in America by quite a margain.

By this definition of "outsold", the Dreamcast outsold the PS2. :D

Genesis out sold the Super Nintendo in America.

Why does this sound familiar for some reason?

Anyway my favorite is of course Super Mario 64 which is my favorite game of all time. Then Super Mario Bros. for NES, and I would guess Pikmin for GC which was soooo much better then I thought it would be. Heh I asked for that game for my birthday I believe when it was 20 bucks since I figured what the hell I'll try it out, and damn was it good. I would just wish the price of the second one will go down sometime soon.

I liked Rogue Leader but damn was it hard to get a gold medal. I have mostly all silver like 1 or 2 bronze, and then a few gold. I'm also pissed at Factor 5 for lying. They said in Rebel Strike it wouldn't be as hard as in RL to get a gold medal, well they lied, its even HARDER. Well I haven't played every single mission, I have play probably 3/4 of them and don't even have ONE medal, let alone a gold one. And no its not because I suck, its just that damn hard.

Was Space Channel 5 available at launch for the DC? I forget. Failing that, Chu Chu Rocket?

And either way, neither of those is what Tetris for Game Boy was.

Neither of those were DC launch games. Didn't like Soul Calibur? NFL2K? Sonic Adventure?

Soul Calibur was launch? Okay. That works. I got my DC late in the game, being a poor high school student and all.
