WTG Danica Patrick. She was leading with just a few laps to go but then she had to slow down and conserve fuel to make sure she'd finish. Ended up 4th.

Congrats to Michael Andretti on winning the Indy 500 as an owner with Dan Wheldon as one of his drivers, who is the first Englishman to win since the 60's.

Damn is Wheldon a cutie lil Brit! :smt055

A girl almost won the Burr straight..race-thing 420.-thingy

fuck it

anyway its doesn't count unless she succeeds and lives to see it. If she raced and made it the finish in first place then exploded it would SEMI count.

Here's the problem....The IRL(Indy Racing League), spent the entire month of May, exploiting the shit out of the fact that Danica had a real shot at winning the race. Then, during the actual 500, the announcer actually compared her to Amelia Earhart, Sally Ride, and others, just because Danica led one lap under a caution flag, because the team chose not to make a pit stop. Also, once the race was over, the broadacsters spent a good 10 minutes talking to Danica's crew and family, gushing about her fourth place finish, when they should have been talking to people from Andretti Green Racing, about how good a job Dan Wheldon, and his tream did to win the race.

Danica Patrick has tons of talent, and will win races. But the IRL and it's broadcasters need to shut the fuck up about it, and let her be a racer. And yeah, she is hot.....Too bad she's engaged.

Yeah and seriously being the first woman/black/asian/gay/vampire is sorta reverse racism. In reality you shouldn't give a shit what color or hole your champion sticks it in, but appreciate the fact you know the fact they won.

They should make her drive naked.

Of course the IRL is hyping her because they are trying to expand their market and mass appeal. The more diversity there is, the more rating, more sponsors/ advertisers, and the more money they can generate.

And apparently, the male drivers are all upset that she has an unfair advantage. There is a weight restriction on the cars, but unlike NASCAR, the weight minimum does not include the driver. Danica Patrick is less than 100lbs, and therefore can go a little bit further and faster on less gas than her male counterparts. (NASCAR includes the weight of the driver in their minimum weight requirements.)

It didn't end up helping her, because she throttled back on the last 10 laps to finish without having to pit. Otherwise she wouldn't have come in 4th.

Check her out: she's a hottie (http://www.indymotorspeedway.com/danica.htm)

To me the weight whining is sour grapes, but maybe 100lbs really makes that big of a difference? The cars already weigh 1500+lbs however, so that's less than 10% difference. I am pretty sure some very light male drivers have run at Indy before without any real advantage and no complaining. If it were that big of a deal we'd have a bunch of tiny Mexicans driving the things like in horse racing.

The fact that NASCAR does, in fact, take into account driver weight makes me think there's validity to the complaint.

If the men want to bitch and moan about weight, then maybe they should put the fucking fork down and then they can be more competitive. They're just biased old fogeys who don't want a woman taking over their sport.

The complaints aren't exactly coming from old fogeys but more like young rednecks...

I stand corrected.

Danica made the excellent point in a Time Magazine interview that the previous year's winner was the heaviest car on the track that day.
