I got to work the Ozzfest Tuesday. I did the load in & out for the main stage & the load out of the B stage. When I arrived I first got to load in Black Label Society & Black Sabbath. Then I was taken & put on the load in for Judas Priest........OH HELL YEAH!!!!
I got to unload & build Priest's stage. I got to unload Rob Halford's sweet ass, chromed out, Harley. I even got a picture with it. Kinda funny, but one of the guys that work for Judas Priest is named Jude. He was cool guy to work with.
At one point we unloaded a purple case off the truck. He commented, "A purple case, how gay is that." He then said, "I apologize to anyone that is gay, there is nothing wrong with that."
To which I replied, "Kinda like the singer?"
To which he replied, " Oh yeah, me boss."
At one point we were told to standby, because we couldn't finish setting up Priest's stage until Sabbath did a sound check. As I was sitting there I look up in time to see Tony Iommi walking in, shortly followed by Bill Ward. They were the only ones to show up for sound check. They ripped through some classic Sabbath riffs, including "Heaven & Hell" surprisingly. Surprising because it's a Dio/Sabbath song so Ozzy will never do it.
Whe they were finished they talked briefly with Jude, I know this becuase I was standing next to Jude at the time. I so wanted to say something to Tony or Bill, but because I was working I'm not allowed to bother the talent.
After we finshed we were cut loose for lunch. While eating at catering I saw Kelly Osbourne wander by. Actually ended up seeing her all over the place. I wonder what her Mom thinks of her other tattoos.
After lunch I was asked If I wanted to make some extra money. Sure.
I was the told they would need help on the B stage breakdown. So I wandered over that way. I met up with the Stage boss over there & he said that I could hang out back stage If I wanted. Cool.
So I got to see Hatebreed & Slipknot from backstage. I even got some pics of Slipknot & I got to see them go through their preshow rituals.
After Slipknot left the stage we started breaking down the stage. By the time we finished most of the main stage acts were done.
While I did miss Slayer, I did get to see the band I wanted to do this show so bad for, Judas Priest. Since I wasn't a stage crew or the show I had to go up on the grass to watch, which was near impossible, but I enjoyed it none the less. I snapped a bunch of pics.
Sabbath was next, but because I didn't want to be late for the load out call & I have seen the reunited Sabbath twice already I went down to the crew "lounge" & litened to the show. Ozzy sounded pretty damn good, his voice was in good shape.
Shortly before load out time I had to go up & get a hard hat from back stage. I looked out across the stage there was Ozzy, Geezer, Tony, & Bill....I was on-stage with Black Sabbath. Cool!
At the end of the day we got some cool swag, a Ozzfest t-shirt, a small stack of Ozzfest CD's (they are all the same CD's), a fistfull of YJ Stinger Energy Mints & a handfull of Trojan "Warm Sensations" condoms. YJ Stinger & Trojan are cosponsers of Ozzfest.
