No Xbox 2 in 2005?

Chief Executive Officer Steve Ballmer said there won't be Xbox 2 in 2005. We don't know if he's referring to fiscal or calendar 2005.

"There's no new Xbox in the next year, but, man, are we hard at work on that next Xbox," Ballmer said.

If that "next year" means calendar 2005, the next generation console war could start in 2006 when Nintendo and Sony are also launching their next-generation systems. If Ballmer meant by "the next year" the next 12 months or fiscal 2005, then the Xbox 2 could still launch in Fall 2005, just in time for the Christmas season. Considering they are in a financial meeting, it is probable he meant fiscal 2005, which ends in June 30, 2005.

We'll have more on the next-generation console war as it develops. Stay tuned.

I hope we dont get ANY new systems in 05, like the PS3 or X-Box Next or Nintendo whatever it is....its too early for new consoles in my opinion.

Same opinion here, even though the PC blows away the consoles graphicly right now, it is just too soon for a new one. Maybe end of '06 or mid-end '07 is a good time for the new ones to roll out.

Ya. Like, Im still having tons of fun with the consoles I have now. I just got a XB on Christmas and a GC in November I bought.....It would suck having to buy new consoles....07 is the year I think

I actually wouldn't mind the X-Box 2 out for Christmas of 05. On ONE condition, that its backwards compatable. I think that would really help them out since not a ton of people bought the first one so this would be a selling point for the second since alot of people didn't want to get it because of the "not enough good games or exclusives" arguement. I think it could also help in Japan since it would basically be getting a 2 for 1 deal like I got with my PS2 since I never had the PS. If its not backwards then I don't give a damn and MS can go rot in hell.(sorry I'm just really REALLY pissed off at MS right now because of MS Internet Explorer and MSN) So if its not I will wait until the first one is pretty cheap and then go get it to play all the games I want.
