View Full Version : Internet Radio returns to Allgames.com - The Bobby Blackwolf Show Version 2.0
Blackwolf
07-22-2005, 05:25 PM
Wednesday night, a semi-cryptic animated GIF (http://www.allgames.com/mt/images/BW072405.gif) showed up in the banner of the Allgames Forums (http://forums.allgames.com/), and people assumed that it was a site redesign, the end of world hunger, or the banning of mecha_samurai14. Sadly, y'all aim your expectations way too high. Thursday night, we added a two minute MP3 preview (http://www.allgames.com/podcast/BWShowPreview.mp3) of the latest addition to Allgames.com.
The Bobby Blackwolf Show was a live weekly Internet radio show from October to December, 2004, where forum members called in and gave their opinions on the hot news of the week. (Which, at that time, was mostly Halo 2, Half-life 2, the PSP, and Madden getting the NFL license.) Due to budgetary concerns, the show was put on hiatus while we figured out what we could and couldn't do. We've figured it out now, and "Version 2.0" is the next evolution of the show, keeping it's roots in live streaming audio and going into the current Fad Of The Moment(TM), Podcasting (http://www.ipodder.org/whatIsPodcasting).
The show still revolves around forum posts and chatters in our IRC channel #allgames.com on GameSurge. We will still take live calls via Skype (http://www.skype.com/) to discuss whatever you want to discuss in the gaming world. And if you can't be there when we're live, you can always leave us a voicemail, email us an MP3, or just send us an email at blackwolf@allgames.com and we'll read it on the air!
So, now you want to know the DETAILS, here they are...
THE LIVE SHOW
The show broadcasts on Sunday evenings at 8PM Eastern/5PM Pacific on All Games Radio Online. This is a dedicated SHOUTcast server that isn't up at the time of this writing, but we will be providing the IP address on Sunday afternoon. You will be able to play this stream in Winamp, iTunes, or any other player that accepts Shoutcast streams. The live stream will begin around 7:30PM with gamemusic selections so people can get connected and set up before the show begins.
LIVE INTERACTION
Our Skypeline is bobbyblackwolfshow. We have voicemail on this account so if you can't be there with us in person, feel free to leave your name (doesn't have to be your real one) and your hometown and a comment on the latest gaming news and you might hear it on the air! During the show, this will be open to accept live calls. It may take us a bit to answer the call, but please keep trying!
PLEASE!! If you've never used Skype before, and just got your FREE account, TEST IT FIRST! Call Echo123 on Skype. This is an automated program that records you for 10 seconds and then plays you back. PLEASE use this to test your microphone settings and voice levels before calling in!
We'll be using the official Allgames IRC channel for live chat comments, #allgames.com on GameSurge (http://www.gamesurge.net/). You can connect using your favorite IRC client, or by using the Java client provided by GameSurge on their site. During the show, I will read out chat comments pertaining to the current topic of conversation.
THE PODCAST
If you can't participate in the live taping, don't fret! A slightly edited version of the live show will be released as a Podcast in time for your Monday morning commute. You don't need an iPod to listen to Podcasts, it's really just a fancy name to say "The archive of the live show," so any MP3 player will do, including your Xbox if you have it modded or have Xbox Music Mixer.
The Podcast RSS link will be made available late Sunday night when the first Podcast is finished, and we will be submitting it to iTunes at the same time. iTunes verifies the content of the first Podcast before placing it in their directory, so it might take a few days for it to show up. We'll provide a link once it gets approved!
THE FUTURE
In the future, we plan on airing telephone interviews and prerecorded interviews out in the field at gaming related events. We've already got a few people out there interested in appearing on the show, and we look forward to growing with our audience. Be sure to tell all your friends about us!
Any inquiries about the show can be emailed to me at blackwolf@allgames.com or asked in our official forum (http://forums.allgames.com/forumdisplay.php?f=49).

Is skype free to use forever, or will I have to pay a monthly fee?

Skype charges for certain features, none of which you would need to call other Skype users such as this show.

Hooray! I loved the Bobby Blackwolf show! I had fun calling in that one time...I will surely contribute to the new show since I'm technically part of the game industry now. ^_^

any chance of calling in?

I don't give out my home phone number, and because of the equipment I use (read: cheap $30 Radio Shack telephone recorder) I can really only have one setup at a time - either microphone + Skype or telephone. All telephone interviews will be prerecorded or pre-arranged.

Microphones are pretty cheap, you can get a good mic or headset for $10 or $20.
nekobun
07-23-2005, 02:57 PM
I didn't see any for that low; you might be able to track down a $20 one at Wal-Mart, but that's the best I could think you'd find it. I think they sell the PS2 USB headsets for around $25 there, too - those work just fine.
I got a headset for free. I forget how or why. I think it was to promote some netphone service. We are talking late 90's here.

Well I'm glad AGRO is back on the air. In case any of you are wondering yes I shall be doing my broadcasts that give all the latest in gaming for us Europeans again which preceed Mr Blackwolf's show. Archives of my broadcast can be found at:
http://www.kropotkin.co.uk
Damn Blackwolf, you have no southern accent at all. I would have called in just to hear that, lol. Glad the show is back up, though I wasn't able (or was just too lazy) to hear the first time it was up.

Blackwolf, I just watched the Diggnation one downloaded directly from the Apple Music Store (Podcast section), and I have to say they have both an audio and a quality video feed up. Might be nice, once you get your feet on the ground--- to try and get a video feed too. It's seriously just the two of them sitting on the couch, and it's more enjoyable then listening to it. Anyway, just a thought...

Twas a good show, well the last 10 minutes I got in on.
Remembering this is on each Sunday will be hard. There should be a reminder put up every Sunday morning. Just like take the flash ad up on the page down, except for Sundays.

Thanks for listening to the train wreck tonight, guys. My laptop (which is where I have chat and Skype) crashed twice before I was to go on the air, which is why I inserted music between Krop's report and the start of the show. It was supposed to be a seamless integration.
I have a LOT of work to do editing this thing down. Looks like we'll take it down to 35-40 minutes from the hour that we had. It'll be done tonight and I'm going to submit it to Podcast sites and iTunes once we get the first show up and the RSS feed correct.
<sob story>
My friend from Japan was in town this weekend and stayed with me. I had a housewarming party yesterday and he wound up not heading out until 6PM today, and I still hadn't recorded the intro and outtro to the show. (Luckily I only needed one bumper, because that was all I had.) So I was unable to actually write out the flow of the show, which is something I WANTED to do for the new version, so it didn't seem so "seat-of-pants"-ish. Funny how it works like that, eh?
</sob story>
There's a chance I might have to broadcast earlier on Sunday next week, due to my actual day job wanting me to spend Sunday evening travelling. I'll keep everyone posted.
Oh, and the song I played when the show was over was "Everlasting Love" from Minna Daisuki Katamari Damacy.

Considering that most of the show would be me just sitting there listening, I don't think a video feed would work. Also, I don't go "live-to-tape" like Digg does - I go through and edit the archive down to eliminate pauses because of the way Skype works. I don't want to talk over someone, so I need to wait a second or two to make sure they're done speaking, and then the callers do the same. It's how I edited 12 minutes out of the first hour-long broadcast (4 minutes being the song in the middle we can't distribute in the Podcast) using mostly 1-2 second edits throughout the conversations.
You'd be so distracted by the quick video cuts on that one. :>

Yo, Blackwolf.
If you want to touch on that topic I brought up at the end of the last show, I think I'd rather focus it on the Majesco bankruptcy, since that seems to be the source of the Nanostray shortage. I've been following their downward spiral for the past few weeks, and can probably find some stuff in the GI interview they did with Majesco's head recently to reference for irony value.
Blackwolf
07-26-2005, 10:39 AM
Looks like the Majesco thing might be the top story. Then again, it's only Tuesday, who knows what will be big by the end of the week.
BTW, Wanted to share something Google showed me. It's an endorsement of the 2004 edition of the show.

You should try to get some special guests, like maybe someone from G4 (pre-shit of course. like back when the screensavers was the screensavers and was about tech). maybe kevin rose, but that would be hard since he now is big with his new podcast (wow, number 10 podcast on iTunes AND on the new and notable list. thats amazing)

I was about to be smarmy and say "Well in my first post I said..." and then I looked back and noticed that I wasn't exactly clear in the first post.
I have the ability to record telephone interviews and have already talked to some "special guests" in the industry about appearing. I just don't want to say who until I can make it a done deal so I won't disappoint anyone.

If I wasn't secure with my weight, I wouldn't be making jokes about it. My girlfriend likes the padding, and hey, fat floats.
However, I disagree with this news of "fat as hell" - I can name a bunch of people who are larger than I am, some of whom post on this forum. The misconception that people get when they see pictures of me or on TV is that I'm short, so I look wider than I really am. Don't get me wrong, I'm wide, but not wide enough to fit Satan's home in my belly.
That's Duality you're thinking of on that one. :D
Glad you like the show. New one tonight!

Oh, and don't expect too long of a post-show music thing. I have to drive 4 hours for a business trip tonight so I can be on the client site at 6:15AM, so I need to jump right into editing so I can have the podcast done at a reasonable hour.

So you joining our site as "The Mod" making threads in every forum saying 'MAKE ME A MOD' meant you were cool right? You were right about Bobo, because the rest of us didn't/still don't like you.
