Should I get that?
Right now I have a geforce 4 ti4200 128mb card.
I hear nothing but good things about that 9800pro, so do you think I should get it? hopefully it will really be a good improvment for doom3, right now I run it on medium detail at 1024x768 noAA noAF at a solid 35 fps, which is ok, but id rather run at around a solid 50 fps at like 1280x1024 with high detail at least 2aa and 2af, you think this will be fine for the job?

I didn't realize they had a 256 version of the 9800 pro. Is there any difference between the 256 and the 128 besides the ram?

the 256 has ai think 10mhz more speed, not too much, but it makes a big difference in the benchmarks I guess, but still the 256 ram will run the better textures in doom3

hmmm, i think I may get that card also. I was gonna pick up the 128 card. What are the odds it comes with a free HL2 voucher.

I have been reading up, and right now, my card is running doom3 as fast as the 9800 pro 256mb with 2xaa and 2xaf, I run it the same with no aa or af... I seriously might just go for a 6800....... even if its a lot of money, it runs it solid, and should last a couple of years, then still be worth $$$ on ebay.

The 256 will provide a significant difference in frame rate with newer games. So if you've got the extra cash go for it.

unfortunatly ATI paid valve to make HL2 run 30% better on there cards. Seems like they have to be little bitch's about it, when ati card only run worse with doom 3 because of driver issues on ATI's part. Oh how I wish that shit would be illegal.

From what I understand, you can even overclock the 9800pro to 9800XT performance without any sort of cooling mods.
But I'd research that, first.

I wouldnt want to mess it up, or end up getting artifacts.

Heh, "Works best with ATI or GeForce" is a whole bunch of crap, it is all money being passed. And yes you can OC the core and memory bandwidth but you need sufficent cooling.
I would spend the $33 more and get the 6800.

I can't see the link, but if that's a 9800 pro 256 MB, I was actually going to buy the same exact one from Newegg. I'm just saving up. I wouldn't spend the extra $200 for the 6800 Ultra. Why? Well, if you think about it, you won't really see a difference to the human eye. Get the 256 MB, it will last you longer. Because now you see games that require 64 MB and it might go 128 soon, so if you got 256, you are set.

Well I got my 9800 Pro 256 yesterday and Doom 3 actually runs on my PC now! I'm runnign it at 1024x768 on Medium Quality. On High quality I noticed big frame drops when turning. Bumping it down to Medium eliminated 99% of em. The graphics still okk amazing on Medium. I tried High quality on 800x600 and it looked terrible. I also tried my card with Morrowind. That game looks amazing now. Everything is so crisp, and the water looks sweet. I'm gonna download the Farcry demo and check that out this weekend. My old card wouldn't run it before.

The more memory doesn't always make it better, as in this case. A 6800nu outperforms a 9800 pro by a reasonable margain.

If you download the Omega drivers it can be OC'ed to an XT.
