I'm going to be buying the DS. It's going to be a lot cheaper, and will have better battery life. I might buy a PSP adter the price goes down.

Im tilting toward DS..but im just going to wait it out..see what launch titles there are for each and the pros and cons for both..Hopefully Nintendo wont release a different DS revision every year like the GBA(no light..now with light but smaller..now the cool NES looking one)...

I just got a GBA SP for christmas, I'm content for a while. I'll probably pick one up after a price drop or if they have a good bundle deal.

PSP
The DS seems like a bad idea waiting to happen. Two screens? Wow, Thats not a big deal to me, and You get a cool Styleist! If I want one of those, I can get a Palm or PPC, Again, does not seem that important to me.
The PSP Seems like it will be the better of the two, I still want to see how the Battery will handle, but i'm willing to bet sony will figure out how to get a good enough battery for the system.
EDIT: However, I have yet to try the systems, so I guess when I can try each out I can pick for sure

I'll wait and see what titles come out for each, since I'll probably be too busy with Halo 2 and Half Life 2 for a long time once they come out.

I don't completely know for sure which one I'm going to be picking up first, but I think I'm leaning more towards the DS. My thoughts could, and probably will, change once more info about each handheld is released.

I'm getting the DS first; better price, and Nintendo fandom runs stronger in my blood, deep down. Even if I am all-accepting in my system selection now.

Probably neither, they said that the DS will be going in the region of $200 and the PSP around $300.
Too rich for a handheld IMO.

After the DS comes out, I give it 5 months, and then there will be a really basic emulater out for it.
I can see an Emulater for the DS, becuase it will use (from what i know) cartridges, so that means someone will be able to make roms with it, and so games can be put of the internet very easy (as what happened with the GBA, which it's emulation on PC's is VERY good, near all new games will run on your computer)
the PSP will be harder, because it's hard to transfer 1.8 GB disks (or however site the games will be on it) over the internet, and I don't see how anyone could transfer it to there PC to begin with (Although I bet someone will figure out a way to do it soon enough when it's out)
Bootleging games from CD's is very easy, to transfer them online is very hard (because of there size)
cartridges are very hard to boogleg, but very easy to transfer online (becuase usually they are very small, or at least much smaller in size then a CD)

How the hell are you going to play games on your PC if you need to use a touchscreen. They can prob come out with something that you can use your mouse, but it wouldn't be the same.

You can use a lightpen on a Vetrix emulater viewed here (http://www.arcadeathome.com/dve/)

PSP, because on my hour-long bus ride home, I'd like a choice of movie, music or game without having to haggle between different tools.
Even though $300 US is pretty steep, imagine how that will be in Canda :smt013

DS no doubt. Sony has no exp. with portable consoles. If they wanted one to sell, they should have started earlier.

I plan on getting the PSP when it comes out. The DS looks interesting, but it seems like a big gimmic to me. Also Sony has never let me down when it comes to getting good software for its hardware.

I currently view the DS as Nintendo's next Virtual Boy. The stylist with touch screen is a good/bad idea.
Good in that yeah it's neat innovation for portable gaming (though Palm really beat them to the punch for this).
But it's bad in that (and any Palm/PPC owner will tell you this) unless Nintendo is going to give owners unlimted screen replacements or screen protctive skins you are going to have some unhappy gamers. Over time that sylist will scratch up the screen to the point you will have "dead" areas where no matter what you do it will not register the "touch." I have a Palm that has such dead areas from playing games on it.
Bad #2, now granted I was not at E3 so I don't know for sure, but the description of the way Metroid is played doesn't make for a really portable system. My understanding is that movement & firing are handled with the styist. OK now picture how you will be holding the system. DS in one hand stylist in the other. Now say you want to change weapons, is that also handled on the touch screen or is it one of the buttons? If it's a button I hope there is some pause funtion while you shift the holding of the system & stylist & then press the button. OK granted you could hit a button with the stylist, but if it's a shoulder button.....? What about other functions? Changing into the ball? Calling up info? Maps (second screen probably since they touted that)?
While I like that Nintendo is going down a different path to be innovators, I think there are somethings that just won't work out for hard core gaming.
I'm probably going to get a PSP & may eventually get a DS, but I'll see how the saga plays a bit out first.
Both here. The DS looks very cool, unique, and innovative.
The PSP looks promising as well with it's ability to play movies, music, and games.

DS all the way unless they put the PSP down as cheap as the DS. i dont know if im going to get either i got way to much shit with me all the time anyway. i got my ipod, ngage, wallet, and that takes up just about all my pocket space there.

Both, which one will do better? Not sure, Nintendo has the experience edge in terms of making Handheld game systems, but Sony has it's namesake. I think price will be the biggest factor, and if Nintendo can launch the DS at only $99.99 (fat chance) then they could beat Sony.
I can't help but ignore the fact that I am constantly having problems with Sony products though, and if the PSP breaks when I drop it (something that hasn't happened to me since the Gamegear) then I think I will know then who the clear winner will be.

Well I doubt the DS will be cheap. Nintendo has a standing rule that they do not sell anything unless they make a profit on it. While both Sony & Xbox have taken losses on hardware, but make up for it in profits in software.

well i will be getting 10% off of my PSP and DS :), but i think ill prefer the PSP

I was considering buying a PSP, but I have a game list (as of now) of 40-50 games (the great thing is, I can afford them all, and much more) but I decided not to because...well look at the screen. It'll scratch up faster than the regular GBA one. Not to mention, if you drop the thing, expect it to shatter into a million and a half pieces. I know Nintendo knows how to make a good handheld, plus I'm more intrigued by the dual and touch screens, rather than pretty graphics and a portable movie/mp3/etc. player. It probably won't be (for my reasoning) worth the price, whatever it is.

DS = out VERY soon, 149, good battery life. Innovative
PSP = not out soon, shit battery life, cool, but BAD design, no innovation. Only thing good about it is the graphics.

I would get both, but I only have so much money, and I'm sort of biased towards Nintendo, because they have been keeping me happy with their new games.
You're lucky. Do you work at a game sotre?
indeed i do, in the uk it's just called "Game" but in USA i think its Electronics Boutique (EB)

I will be getting a DS. It will play all my GBA games and I am looking forward to Metroid: Hunters and the new Legend of Zelda (not to mention the shitloads of other games that will be coming out). I also prefer the ideas of carts to discs on a handheld because you don't have to sit through long load times. Also, $150 is very reasonable, having a video player and MP3 player on the PSP will be useless if you can't burn onto those UMDs. That means you will have to buy memory sticks (and spend even more cash). Anyway, I'm not biased, we will all just have to see how this hand-held war turns out.

I'm not big into the handheld market, but If I felt the urge to go and get one, it'd be the DS. I fucking hate sony, added to the fact that the battery life is boudn to suck, and does anyone remember the game gear?
case and point.
Edit- one name, with a letter.
N-Gage, They tried to impress us with all the features, but what happened? No one bought into the graphics, or anything of the sort.
Sony's pretty, but I'll take function over features.
