Chrisphil and I were discussing that some people here are posting just for the hell of posting. *This (http://forums.allgames.com/viewtopic.php?t=90)* is exactly the type of crap I'm talking about. It's what happened at the G4TV forums and those forums were/are terrible. Some people fail to see quality over quantity. So I think it's best if we:

1) Put in a character limit. Maybe twenty characters. Or if you can do it by words, make it seven words minimum.

2) Make the minimum posting intervals at least 45 seconds.

I'm hoping this forum becomes a quality one. But if I start seeing the negative qualities of the G4TV forums. I won't want to be an active member of the community and I think a few others would agree.

Posts like this, are not good. The forums have been up for one day and we already have people posting just to push up the number of there posts.

Another thing, there's too many suggestions for more forums. Scot and I already talked about merging or collapsing some forums. But people looking for MMORPG forums and all that other stuff, it starts getting too specific. We don't have that type of community, YET.

By the way, I'm starting to get a little worried. I just saw this:

he made all this he deserves to have his own bored, also laura boerd Laughing just kidding, but agn almost made g4 this man is the next miyamoto

I mean, I don't even know what to say about these kind of posts. It's like....I don't want to call people stupid or retarded and all but....eh....

I'm older than probably almost everyone else posting here, and I see this sort of thing happening every year around this time. Hey, school is out and you're bound to get a few 'Scot is the next miyamoto' posts for a while. But to start putting the sort of restrictions you put out there this early on these boards is a wee bit of a knee jerk reaction. Let things shake loose a bit. Some will simply stop posting, others will find other more interesting things to do, and those of us who like places like this will stick around. That's only my couple of pennies, for what it's worth...which is about two cents.

I'd like to be reactive to this community as opposed to stalin like proactive measures. I think we'll be able to tolerate some n00bness, but in the end, we'll have mods for each forum and they'll decide what fits and what doesnt.

I think Scot would agree with me when I say I really want this to be a relaxed community where people can feel free to speak their minds. I'm not sure set-in-stone rules are required yet.

Hopefully people will use common sense when posting, if they don't hopefully the other moderators (which haven't been chosen yet) and myself will catch them.

If people can just use common sense, I dont think we'll have to resort to a list of rules. But, if it does come to that, I'm sure we can figure out something.

I don't know if many people have common sense nowadays.

On other sites I visit, they do have a "report this message to mod" button. That's an idea.

I'd like to see forums that didn't have aggresive rules either. That's why I'm no longer a forum mod over at G4techTV. It was great over there when the forums first opened, because it WAS quality over quantity. And having a moderator really wasn't necessary due to the "newness". (I was asked to be a moderator and pretty much did nothing but answer questions for the first month or two that I had the title.) But once you get more people and a wider audience, that changes.

Part of the issues with the whole G4 setup was that they had too many rules, and too many people wanted to break those rules. Or at least push them. It's FUN to try to get around the curse filter in a place where you're not supposed to. But if you're allowed to curse, it's no longer fun to just curse for cursing's sake. That's why most places with a lot of rules suck - because people are more interested in pushing the boundaries of those rules than actually chatting with other people in the community.

(This is most evident in chat. People are more interested in whining that they can't curse and promote where they get their warez than actually chatting about games with the other chatters. Then they try to start a revoluiton.)

I am actually a big proponent of any system that has the following rules:

1. Don't post anything that would get this website in trouble.
2. Don't be a douche.

Interpretation of these rules are subjective with the moderator staff as a whole. Both of these are bannable offenses.

That would rule.

I agree with The Wolf. I find myself visitng the G4TechTV boards a lot less than I used to and spending more time here. I hate running into topics where people spam and just do something to push the rules.
